I have resisted the temptation to post on here for a long time now but felt the need to this week as the anti-Davey squad reaches the next level. I think it is time for another 'reality check'; 1. Barnsley has not got the financial muscle that many teams in this league has to buy players everytime the fans ask for one 2. We have one of the lowest wage bills in the league and cannot attract 'big name' players on free transfers as we cannot compete with almost all teams in this league 3. Our home support is one of the lowest in the league and despite efforts to increase this it is clear we have a base of fans that turn out whatever. Our gate only seems to increase for the 'big games' and 4. Perhaps most importantly of all who do all the fans who have been calling for the head of Simon Davey, believe we can replace him with? Alan Curbishley? Sam Allardyce? Sir Alex Ferguson when he has had enough at Manchester United?? Davey has worked wonders to keep this club in this division with a few welcome cup wins along the way. There is no manager or coach that would come to Barnsley and do the job he has done, we are not a big club as it stands and fans must realise that if we are to progress as a club we must be exactly that - a club
we will not progress with this man in charge. we play no football, we can't get a point away from home, when the home form goes we're fecked. he alienates players who don't tow his headmaster type line and basically ignores them. HE IS KILLING OUR CLUB
So your happy listening to Davey,s Post Match interviews blaming everyone apart from himself after yet another away defeat to add to long list of abject away performances since he took charge?
thats like saying am i happy with having someone like odejayi or macken when theres far better players in the premier league. clearly certain things aren't done well but that is my point, who else can we attract? who is better who would come to Barnsley and do a better job?
Billy Davies, tried and tested at this level And would do a good job for us with experience, good man management and motivation skills, and is 400 times the manager Davey could even dream about becoming. And he still lives North of Derby. I would have him tomorrow, but if my wish comes true and we get Tonked on Tuesday then i would be happy for him to be here a week on Monday. Daveys time is up
Agree with row x 100%!!! Also a few more names to throw in there: Martin Allen?? Steve Cotterill?? Maybe JUST maybe Big Sam?
Has a proven pedigree at this level with Derby and Preston something which Davey can't aspire to and also shows some passion on the touchline rather than the folded arms routine Davey portrays. Not saying that he would come and no disrespect to you but if we can't attract anyone with a better track record than Davey's to the club then we really are in trouble!
any Barnsley 'fan' who wants to see us get tonked clearly isn't a fan at all. Never heard something so ridiculous
Agree 100% but it not beyond the realms of possibility that it may happen.Personally I would be happy with a draw. Would love us to win but realistically can't see it happening especially if Mr Davey plays the same side fielded at Blackpool
Was Andy Ritchie right? Are we too small a club to compete in the Championship, never mind the Premiership?
Maybe we are but it doesnt remove the fact that we have survived for the last two seasons and have made progress to attempt to stay up this season. something though is going wrong inside the dressing room either with the playrs, th manager or a combination of both.
I can't accept that.. there are clubs of a similar size and stature to us and we always used to be able to attract a decent standard of player. I dare say we aren't paying the best wages but probably by no means the lowest. We have potential to get bigger gates if doing well. I could see us getting 18k plus if we were challenging at the top of the table if not more, over time. If we are too small, let's write **** on it now and pack it up...
Fair points Redstar Just wondering what the current thinking is. With relatively poor gates, and no big backer, I just wonder if we are struggling against the tide. My view is that PC is doing his best, but maybe we need another investor to help out, and make us more "attractive" with regards to wages etc. Something is not working. 4 defeats out of 5 tend to emphasize that.
RE: Fair points Redstar I think that we were willing to pay Phillips 15k a week shows that Cryne will pay the bill where required. Not really sure where the problem lies..is it Davey and his staff or is it higher up in the club? Back to the age old question of having football people involved at some level, because apart from Barry Taylor, who just seems to smile with sponsors in the programme, I can't see any other football experience in there. The form or lack of it has continued from last season and SD does not seem to be sure what ius causing it either. Lets hope we can get some results picked up soon as we are nearly in October now and are looking at a long hard season.
