What do we all want? A CB that has pace, good in the air, good on ball, good tackle? One thing, we cant afford Rio Ferdinand can we? Get real. Darren Moore is slow yes but for gods sake he plays in our shirt and is a damn good centre half. He is the best in the air at the club, he is the strongest at the club, he is the most experienced at the club. Ok, he aint pretty on the ball but neither is Chris Morgan who plays for one of the top 3 teams in the division. I have always liked Darren Moore and although he might get found out with his pace a few times, didnt we used to struggle up against centre forwards like Hulse, Adebola, Helgusson. Big centre forwards. Would Foster deal with these players as well or anyone else for that matter? HES HERE, HES THERE, HES EVERY FECKIN WHERE, DARREN MOORE, DARREN MOORE!!!! One question Why do Derby fans like him so much and before you answer, dont come with childish answers like "they like him so much now cos he now plays on the opposition and not for Derby"
If he is in the team then I will support him. But it is like playing with 10 men when our team dare not pass to him because they know he will be put under pressure imediately. He can only kick it the way he is facing. Also how can we expect Foster and our full backs to be confident when they have to cover old Darren costantly.
hes not as slow as people say. he ran two thirds of the pitch after warm up and he was not bad. Its just that some of the other players are like athletes. e.g. dyer today
RE: He's like a truck being pulled, awful to watch. nt I saw a truck being pulled once that was half on fire, they were pulling it off m6 so they could re-open upto 2 lanes, was actually quite decent
Couldn't agree more The only thing missing from Darren Moore's game is pace, but he still seems to win 99% of everything thrown at him. He's been our best player for me this season, he's had one bad half of football and for the other 7 and a half league games, he's been as consistent as ever. Bering in mind that for the first 4 or so games he was inured and was having pain killers injected into his foot before kick off. Darren Moore is a great ASSET to this football club.
Spot on, and the perfect example of how Barnsley fans aren't happy unless they're moaning. For years this BBS, each and every week, was full of people claiming that we were crying out for a big, ugly, experienced centre half "like Darren Moore." Then, we sign him and he's crap because he's lost his pace (ah, but if he hadn't he wouldn't be as 'experienced' then would he?) and he hasn't suddenly learned to play football like Bobby Moore (how inconsiderate). He's been the man of the match in most of the games I've seen this season, but in most cases it's been tricky top pick anyone at all. Yes, if we wanted to compete at the top of the league, then he might be lacking a bit, but in the situation we're in he's a valuable asset.
It would be interesting to see the defence without big Daz, i'm not too sure Foster could handle the responsibility, There are not many strikers who get the better of Moore wheras strong hard strikers always get the better of Foster, ie Kuqi & Parkin type players.
Cheers guys Although opinions may differ, it is nice to see that there are some fans of Barnsley that have a footballing brain. There are always gonna be fans that you can not please no matter what you do and they will find anyone or anything to make a scapegoat. Darren Moore wasn't brought to the club as a good fast footballing centre half. He was brought here for his presence. We no longer struggle up against big centre forwards anymore with him in the side. I remember last season when he got sent off at home against Donny and everyone was glad he was out of the Palace game away with his suspension. What happened????? We lost to palace and took a right tonking from Kuqi and co up front and looked a shadow of a defence. Game after against Wednesday he was in the side, played a blinder and 3 games later against Charlton away, he scored and the fans were singing his name. Thing is with our fans, when he makes a mistake they are so quick to jump on the bandwagon and slate him. I can name 10 regular players this season that have started most games that have played far worse than him. Big Up Dazza
