This is the biggest area of concern to me. Dawson/Perkins partnership. It simply doesn't work. Dawson runs his blood to water however he cannot cut the cloth at championship level. Perkins was good again he has been found out, he only has a left foot yesterday he did a full circular turn to ensure the ball was on his left boot and cannot see a pass, he struggles to get past players. They fail to to protect the back four do our midfield, hence both goals yesterday. They let COG run the channels as a lone striker leaving no one in the box with the exception of JOB the other 2 Mellis and Cwyka didnt bust a gut to get in the box as his replacement. My Opinions Sack of Perkins or Dawson. Bring in a solid DMC or play hassell. Use Dawson to box to box Wingers should be Dale Jennings/Cwyka with JOB/McCourt in the centre. This should inject pace which Wilson says we need with the inclusion of Dale Jennings. Cwyka can make things happen in going forward. The defenders are protected with BH. Wilson just needs to tell Cwkya and Jennings to stay wide. Pull out the players in the opposition. We fail to do this.
digby and lazaruz surely worth a chance , digby played well pre season , a bad game at blackpool and we aint seen him since
Maybe could agree to that as for RNL. This will be the 5th manager he's played for. We will have to see about him.
To be honest the only midfielder we have who is up to championship standard is Mellis with both McCourt and Tompole being decent subs. The rest aren't up to it anymore so for good or bad it's time to select Digby and RNL with someone else drafted in on loan with experience and a bit of steel to support them. The rest can bugger off though Jennings should also get a run of games coming off the bench initially.
If we want to stand a chance of getting out of this mess I don't think we can rely on any players already contracted to the club. Two new full backs, three midfielders and a new striker just might keep us in with a chance going into the final few games.
Dawson can't play box to box. He can charge around like an escaped elephant but his control of the ball is appalling. Perkins is the least talented player we have ever had. He contributed nothing whatsoever yesterday. Pathetic.
Our midfield was possibly strongest in the division under Mark Robins... We had Adam Hammill, Anderson de silva, Hugo Colace, Nathan Doyle, Emil hallfredson, JCR, Disco Devaney Compared with current squad Hammill vs Cwyka - Hammill Devaney vs JOB - disco Anderson vs Mellis - ADS Colace vs Perkins - Colace Doyle vs Dawson - Doyle Hallfredson vs Etuhu - hallfredson JCR vs MCCourt - JCR Butterfield vs Digby - academy lads on fringes jury out Sad to say but we have gone backwards. Robins team better in every area. Current squad is bigger with additions of Jennings and RNL. Big difference is quality, flair/goals/assists from the wings, plus a solid central pairing to both break up play and build attacks. Same could be said for our defence and attack... Hillflicker slowly set us up as a league 1 side... Unless Danny makes some big changes that's where we are headed... IMHO 5+ out the door and we need similar amount in new faces... Leaders on the pitch! I would also give Mellon his cards, wilson needs fresh ideas... MM was part of the problem and has little experience at this level...
I thought Dawson has a good first half sat in front of the back four. On more than one occasion he quickly covered for Kennedy when he was up the field or out of position ( why aren't we playing Nyatanga?) As far as Perkins goes it's rare I see a positive outcome when he gets the ball. It's lost or given away or he gets knocked of it. The best we get is usually a two yard pass sideways or backwards after a 360 degree handbrake turn. His chief asset is the he gets in the way a lot . Plenty of energy and decent third division player but doesn't contribute enough at this level. Spotland must be calling by now...
I think Perkins's "energy" is a myth. He spends most of the game trotting around the pitch and avoiding the ball as much as possible.
This is the sad truth. The gulf between the two midfields is huge with only Mellis and McCourt anywhere near the previous incumbents.
