Paul - well done

for posting a football related thread.

And I agree - I'm sure they have more than enough in their coffers to police footie matches.

The way traffic police can police us compared to "normal" run-of-the-mill bobbies is a joke. Get robbed and you get no visit, no investigation but just a crime number for insurance purposes. However, travel at 31 in a 30 and either a camera or a traffic cop will pounce.

well if the clubs do pay more then they are not responsible for fans behaviour.

if a club employs a firm of stewards and also pays up for an enhanced police presence then in no way should they then be held responsible for any crowd problems. In the past clubs have been disciplined because of crowd incidents, but if the stewarding company and police take on that job then surely its them at fault and not the club concerned. If the Police/Steward company have recommended levels of Policing/stewarding and then it goes wrong then its the Police/steward company to blamefor it. Consequently any fines or compensatory claims for injury or damages should be made upon the Police/Stewarding company.

What gets to me with this is that they dictate the level of policing required which often bears no relation to the game being covered.

I can always remember going to watch City play Leyton Orient in a night game at Ninian Park and was gobsmacked to see road closures, masses of mounted police and a helicopter! They brought under 50 fans btw and are not exactly known as a "trouble" club.

Lets be honest, if you've watched football for long enough - particularly if you're a regular away traveller - you could look at the fixture list and name the games there'll be trouble at. You could even pick out potential flashpoints with fans going to different games - Birmingham New Street anyone?

When we've played Hull recently, our coaches have been escorted by numbers capable of taking on a small country - all the way out of Yorkshire. When we've played L**ds, the've turned around after we've got on the M50. Who sanctions that nonsense?

And that's without even touching on the competence of the "officers of the law" they use - Sheff Utd being the latest in a long, long line of failure on their part.

It may cost them less if they............................................

stopped using Police Horses when only a couple of hundred away fans turn out.

Perhaps geting rid of their insistence on getting payed considerably more than stewards who do the same thing (nowt!) might help ease the financial burden on the poor police.

That and buying less turbo charged Volvos and Mitsubishi Evo's...

It would cost less if they grounded that fecking helicopter

and saved thousands. The whole idea of an helicopter is that it can be quickly on the scene so why the hell is it up there during games when everyone is IN the stand?

This is an example of someone who should be sacked on the spot!

However, South Yorkshire police are obviously the best force in the country and have a faultless record of policing matches that they should be paid more. What a joker...

What annoys me most about this statement is the fact that they are complaining about having to deal with crimes in the town / city centres and that they have to put up the cost of that... Good heavens we can't have that, police officers doing the job they are paid to do by us anyway!

So if Barnsley FC is supposed to be a community club, stop charging them anything for policing is my answer. This has already been paid for by the people of Barnsley by way of the more than generous increasing council tax payments.

So lets look at what the police do these days anyway..
1 House burglary, ok they get someone on a phone to give you a reference and then on the odd occassion visit a few months after and start dusting for prints (muppets).
2 Arrest people for public order offences then let them off with a warning so they don't have to do any paperwork (muppets).
3 Stand behind bushes with cameras looking for someone doing 34 in a 30 zone (muppets).
4 Illegally park their vehicles causing nuisance to the other road users (muppets).
5 Play airwolf in their shiny copter making tv programmes about how good they are (muppets)
6 Turn a blind eye when it is pointed out that a fight has broken out in the town centre just so they don't have to get involved. (muppets)
7 Stop motorists to ask silly questions like 'Did you know only one brake light came on round that last corner' (Yeah, of course officer I was sat on the rear bumper) (muppets).
8 Other non interesting things.

Ok a few officers might be their to uphold the law etc.. but 75% of them in my opinion are both a waste of space and money.

I'm all in favour of paying for a good service but!! As for the fire and ambulance services, now I reckon they earn their cash..
rant over.
