RE: and what ????

It is rather interesting isn't it?

Somebody at the BBC needs to learn maths as I'm pretty sure that 1.1m is not "over half" of 2.7m

"2.7m new jobs had been created under Labour."

"The number of foreign workers in the UK since 1997 is now thought to be 1.1m"

Apparently someone in the government got the figures wrong.

You're trying to equate jobes created to foreign workers in the UK since 1997 so it's not going to work is it? Unless each job only went to one worker after which the worker went home and the job ceased to exist.

ah, but a 'large number' of those were already over here. so what's wrong with getting folk already here to work and pay tax?

A problem has been identified about accomodating millions of people who may wish to come to the UK

And the Government can't even add up properly those that are here. It doesn't inspire confidence to me at least. Crap. And I voted for them too.

    Good point

They are trying to combine 2 seperate statistics here.

    1. Number of new jobs created since 1997.
    2. Number of foreign workers since 1997.

It's not necessarily the case that each foreign worker took a "new job", it could have been an existing one.

And also, as you say, they may have returned home and that job is filled by another foreign worker or even a British worker.

I'm trying to work out what that does to the figures but my head hurts now!

It's all a load of ballocks!
