Dee dars had already taken the nickname pigs so we had to come up with something else. It's actually because on the next map before the the ground had been built the Oakwell brewery was in place meaning that the area to the south, west and now the east of the ground were all called Oakwell rather than as it looks on the original map just being to the south.
For those that may be interested....the site that the map is from also provide a function that places the modern map beneath the old map...scroll the transparency toggle and you can see exactly what's built there today. You just need to access the map differently....unfortunately it's a while since I've done it and can't just remember the trick.
Guess you’ve got to remember that they accessed via Oakwell Lane through Oakwell to get to the fields from St.Peters Church?
Monk Bretton where I was brought up looks different. As a kid we had fields and now it's hard to see where it starts and finishes. Got an old picture of Butter Cross close to where my parents house now is.
Try this for fun, modern map side by side with old maps: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/sid...=53.45940&lon=-1.47429&layers=6&right=BingHyb
