Owls Reserves 1-3 Barnsley

A patched-up Owls reserve side went down to local neighbours Barnsley on Tuesday afternoon, as the visitors came from behind to take the points.
Patrick Collins gave Wednesday an early lead but Kyle Nix got a swift leveller for the Tykes, who went on to earn victory thanks to goals from Daniel Nardiello and Nathan Joynes.
So tight is the current situation at S6 regarding fit and available players that academy manager Sean McAuley was named as a substitute. The former Hartlepool and Scnuthorpe full-back made a second-half appearance, while Wednesday suffered another injury blow with Leon Best forced off through injury early in the second half.
The contest got off to a flying start with goals for both sides inside the first six minutes. Wednesday broke the deadlock when Collins rose to plant a header firmly into the Reds net just four minutes in, only for Barnsley to hit back with Nix shooting home from 12 yards two minutes later.
The visitors completed a turnaround as Nardiello executed a neat turn before driving a low shot into Ben Kirby's right-hand corner on 30 minutes. Barnsley also threatened when Joynes headed over the top and Robbie Williams blazed in a 25-yarder that narrowly cleared the Owls crossbar.
Best backheaded Richard Jones' free-kick over the top just before the break before departing the action around the hour mark after sustaining a knock.
Kirby stood up well to deny Nardiello in a one-on-one after Simon Heslop put him through and Sean McAllister made a smart intervention to stop Nardiello's centre picking out Joynes. However there was no denying Barnsley a third on 71 minutes as Joynes put his downward header well out of Kirby's reach from Anthony McParland's right-wing cross, to put the seal on the Reds' win.
GOAL UPDATES:
OWLS 1-0 BARNSLEY (Collins 4) - A firm header past Naylor from 10 yards.
OWLS 1-1 BARNSLEY (Nix 6) - A 12-yard shot past Kirby.
OWLS 1-2 BARNSLEY (Nardiello 30) - A low shot on the turn which found Kirby's bottom right-hand corner.
OWLS 1-3 BARNSLEY (Joynes 71) - A downward header from McParland's cross.
Teams:
Wednesday: Kirby; Collins (McAuley 68), Broadbent, McMenamin, Jones (Fores-Chambers 45); White, McAllister, Folly, Thorpe; Best (Manzizila 61), Jordan.
Subs: O'Donnell, McAuley, Fores-Chambers, Ellis, A Manzizila.
Barnsley: Naylor, Harban, Williams (Potter 68), Laight, Meynell, Heslop, McParland, Wroe, Joynes, Nardiello (Wright 90), Nix.
Subs: Loukes, Holt, Potter, Wright, Waggett.
