Paddy Kenny has signed a new deal at Sheffield United to keep him at Bramall Lane.

The 31-year-old is currently banned from all competitions until April after losing his appeal against a nine-month ban for failing a drugs test.

Kenny's[IMG] existing deal was due to expire next summer and there had been suggestions he could be allowed to leave.

However, the club have moved to tie down the Republic of Ireland international to a deal until 2011.

The news is a boost to Kenny as he looks to get his career back on track once his ban ends.

Blades chief Kevin Blackwell was delighted to keep hold of Kenny.

"We're delighted, both for the club and for Paddy, that the situation has been resolved," said Blackwell.

"Paddy has had his contract extended for 12 months and he will now have the chance to prove that he's still one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

"It's great news for him and the club because we will have a quality player available, albeit not until next season."

Blackwell given up on promotion for this season then

Paddy has had his contract extended for 12 months and he will now have the chance to prove that he's still one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

"It's great news for him and the club because we will have a quality player available, albeit not until next season."

Clearly expects Kenny to be playing for them in the championship then

Wonder if he would be any good in league 1
