Sunderland are ready to test Sheffield United’s resolve over Paddy Kenny, skysports.com understands.

The Irish international was one of The Blades’ top-performers despite their eventual relegation from the Premiership.

It is believed that Black Cats supremo Roy Keane highlighted Kenny as one of his possible summer recruits some weeks ago.

And after further scouting tripsto watch him, coupled with United’s relegation — he is now ready to make his move.

Keane knows Kenny from their time together with the Irish international set-up and wants him at The Stadium of Light to provide top-class competition to current number one Darren Ward.

United are bracing themselves not only for bids for Kenny, but a host of their other top players including Phil Jagielka and Michael Tonge.
