I love Paddy McCourt. I would play him every game. It's like watching magic when he has the ball. I don't care if he never tracks back, which he does sometimes, I don't care if never puts a tackle in, which he does sometimes, I don't care that he doesn't run his blood to water, I don't care all that much that some people believe he doesn't pass the ball, when in reality he's probably the best passer we have at the club, I just love to see him with the ball at his feet. But I'm not blind. I don't think by playing Paddy McCourt all our problems would be solved. I'm fully aware that by including him it opens up some attacking possibilities, but it also restricts the defensive side of our game. I think David Flitcroft thought the same as I do and once he got Paddy fit, he selected him in just about every game he was available. We lost, again and again, and David eventually lost his job. Not because Paddy ****** things up for him, but because his inclusion made little difference. I'd play Paddy because he entertains me, because I like him, because he reminds me of a bygone age when football was much more innocent, less about natural athletes and more about skill. I'd play Paddy because he brings out the romantic in me, but I wouldn't play him believing that we'll win more football matches, because I know that isn't the case. All that Danny Wilson wants to do at the moment is win football games. He doesn't care about entertaining the crowd or romantic notions of yesteryear, he's just trying to get us to survive. He's failing, but playing Paddy McCourt wouldn't make him succeed. All the above could also be repeated, to a lesser extent, about Cywka. Another player we just have to include. We gave him 45 minutes today and his impact was close to zero. I doubt that will be mentioned. We did everything right today bar put away two sitters. Bournemouth had their chances too, but the guy we employ to stop them scoring did his job. We just fluffed our chances with no intervention from the opposition at all. I don't know what a manager is supposed to do about that. You can complain all you like, saying the manager isn't including this player or that, but the fact of the matter is the squad isn't good enough and it doesn't matter who we pick, we're going to struggle. Just because you believe we should play a certain way or pick a certain player, doesn't make it right. The tactics were bang on today. Well thought out, well implemented by the players, everyone given a specific job and everyone doing it to the best of their ability. It wasn't scintillating football, but you're just going to have to accept we don't have the players to do that. What it did do was create two guilt edge chances, proper gimmes, and we fluffed them. C'est la ******* vie.
Seriously I don't get it, don't get me wrong he's scored a couple of worldies as did Cwyka but neither are that good. Neither entertain me like Vaz Te did, now he was a good player
No he won't. I have more confidence in our board than that. I believe they can see what the majority of people I respect can also see. Time will tell, I could be wrong, but I think Ben Mansford knows football, I think he knows what's going on and I think he'll be backing and assisting Danny Wilson in the summer in building a squad to mount a challenge for promotion from league 1. We'll see, feel free to bring this BTT if I'm wrong.
That's fine mate, we all have our favourites and those we just don't get. To be honest, I think your opinion backs up the point I was getting at more than mine does.
I just wish one of these flair players could find some consistency. There's no doubt there's talent there but we just done see enough of it. The thing is when you've spent most of your career coming on at 3-0 up against the likes of Kilmarnock & Dundee where it doesn't matter if you're terrible as the game is already won it must be hard to have to play with responsibility
So has Wilson, and most other Barnsley managers, because they have to take risks on freebies, and players no one else wants as we don't have much money.
Quite right. Players simply not good enough and it's not the managers fault . We won't find a better manager than Wilson and he must be given time and the support he needs to build. Ok some of his loan signings haven't worked out but I for one thought Frimpong and Shea looked quality on paper before they kicked a ball. But it's nothing new that loan signings turn out to have the deck chair out in February -seen it time and time again here especially when the going gets tough. In the end Wilson has tried an emergency re-shuffle with loan players to try and address the short term problem and it hasn't worked. Some you win some you lose. Now he has to plan for the longer term. I'm encouraged by the fact that it didn't take long for him to suss and dump the dross signed by Hillcroft-the real culprits for our situation. We have the right man for the job...he just needs to be given the resources to succeed .
I agree with that. Just don't know what relevance pointing out hill brought him and developed has to do with it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
