really? tbh, i thought he was largely anonymous for most of the match. granted, those glimpses are great to watch. but they are only glimpses. if we're happy with his (lack of) involvement off the ball, they need to be getting him the ball more often.

Seemed to have very little end product tonight. His talent is undoubtable, but his work rate and fitness sometimes leave a little to be desired.

Watch it again. Sheer quality. I realise there are people who wouldn't recognise a proper footballer if they fell over him but do yourself a favour. We'll not see much better.

If you mean Jimbo after tonight's display, then spot on.

We shall never see anything like that again.

Cos he's never done it before.. so it seems unlikely to be repeated.

I'd give him another go though.

I love Paddy but there was little tonight to merit adulation along the lines you're suggesting.

    Praise the motm. Lord Jim

    Little end product?

The guy created our goal. But yeah, you're **** Paddy 'cos you don't run about. Forget about the chances you create, you've got to run around before some of our fans think you're any good. It's just a pity that those same players running around don't create anything like you do, or score the quality of goal you're capable of.

I get your point BigLil (and I agree in regards to Paddy), but Jim is one of our biggest run around players and he was the one who put it in the net.

O'Brien also has skill. But it really pisses me off when we finally get a player with natural ability on the ball, a true entertainer, exceptionally creative, a level of skill not seen at our club for years and all some of our fans can do is to complain he doesn't run around. Why don't they criticise those who do run around a lot for not being as creative as McCourt?

    Re: Little end product?

To quote Archey on this very thread, "his work rate and fitness sometimes leave a little to be desired." Red Rain, dreamboy3000 & tosh have also done it previously. Has it got to be done a certain number of times before it can be admitted to have happened?

    Re: Little end product?

i don't think that's really a complaint, it's more a statement of fact. he does have a low work rate, and he doesn't have a level of fitness to get him through 90 minutes. that's nothing to do with his footballing ability

Paddy defends by just being there. The opposition dare not take their eyes off him. Take players like him off and you hand the initiative to other teams.

Bit unlike you on this thread innit?

Shorts rather than pints? Spouse always spots the difference with me...she's always wrong that night, but right in the morning

    Blimey

Note to self "Don't be daft enough to post after drinking copious amounts of alcohol".
I unreservedly apologise to archey, tomfun, Red Rain, dreamboy3000 & tosh for my alcohol fuelled ramblings & aggressive tone of posts. It was totally uncalled for and simply wrong.

    Thanks Glynn, mate

As threadstopper quite rightly said, it's unlike me. However, it's no excuse and it's only right I apologise to those lads.

    Re: Little end product?

Granted, he made the goal, and now ive slept on it he dud play a couple of decent balls over to Mellis. But other than that, I just felt he tried a little too hard tonight to beat his man when there were better options available. Maybe it was down to Ipswich having at least 2 players on him at all times.

There's gonna be games where he gets completely marked out of the game, and games where he tears teams apart. Either way, he's a quality player we need to bring into the game as much as possible.
