Absolutely Disgusting

The person responsible should have the same done to them to see how they like it. Murderers don't deserve to live.

There's a bit more information here.

He lives at King's Crescent, Morecambe.

Man who hanged mother's dog facing jail

Apr 15 2009

A MANwho caused the slow, painful death of his mother's dog by hanging it from its lead will be sentenced today.

Christopher Collyer, 25, said his mother Mandy told him to "dump" Charlie, a brown and white springer spaniel, after she and his father, Ian, were evicted from their home for failing to pay the mortgage when they lost their jobs.

Collyer, of Kings Crescent, Morecambe, Lancashire, was found guilty at Bradford Magistrates' Court last month of causing unnecessary suffering to Charlie by hanging him from a pipe inside a stone bunker in woods in Keighley, West Yorkshire, leaving him to strangle to death.

The court heard that Mr and Mrs Collyer were unable to pay the mortgage on their home of 25 years after Mrs Collyer, 47, was laid off from her job as a cleaner and Mr Collyer, 56, could not continue his job in a warehouse due to ill health.

The couple, who owned two dogs - Charlie and a Japanese Akita called China - moved to a privately rented home, in Keighley, West Yorkshire, where the landlord would only allow one of the animals to remain.

Collyer said his mother told him to dump six-year-old Charlie but he denied killing the pet, claiming he had given him away to an unknown woman with another springer spaniel who he met in a field near his parents' old home.

But magistrates found him guilty of hanging the dog and described his evidence as "inconsistent, vague, confused and unbelievable".

Collyer was also convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to Charlie by failing to provide treatment for a chronic skin condition and failing to ensure the needs of Charlie were met.

He was warned by magistrates that he could be jailed.

Mr and Mrs Collyer, of Halifax, West Yorkshire, previously pleaded guilty to two charges each of causing unnecessary suffering to Charlie.

They will also be sentenced at Bradford Magistrates' Court today.

    This is quite alarming.

After the hearing, RSPCA Inspector Dave Holgate, who had previously said he hoped the sentence would reflect his disgust, said: “The offender had to go to jail and he received just two weeks’ short of the maximum term but most importantly he will not be allowed to keep animals again.”

Am I reading that right? The maximum term for causing animal suffering is 26 weeks? Where are we? ******* Korea?

IMO we dont seem to have the balance right with crime and the punishment.... In this country we appear to place more importance on money and goods than the care and welfare of living things. ...sad endightment of our society...

That has made me cry and feel sick

what scum. Let's just hope that he gets what's coming to him.
The sentencing for animal cruelty needs reviewing desparetly as that is just pathetic.
As soon as i saw that picture it immediately brought back the image of the Dalmatian that was hung in Cudworth, don't think anyone has been caught for that.
Afew years ago me and my then partner (god rest him) were driving through New Lodge and a lad about 19/20 was swinging this dog round with a choker chain and lifting it up off the ground. Both animal lovers we were absolutely furious and upset. My partner stopped the car and asked him what the hell he thought he was doing. He and his mates were laughing and saying it was nothing to do with us. He yanked the dog again and my partner lost it, his mates soon ran off and left him when they saw what they would be getting if they didn't do one and quick. Lets just say the dog lived happily ever after without that owner.

The politics involved with animal cruelty cases is incredible at times. Client confidentiality has a lot to answer for!
