do you have a problem with this trophy ? not having a go to be honest, I wonder if some do have a problem because of the sponsors? I went to the final of it a good few years ago when it was held in the Millenium stadium at Cardiff. Blackpool won it that year beating Cambridge, and Martin Bullock was playing for Blackpool that day too. It was good day out and the trophy is a really good looking thing too. I do not know what the prize money amounts to, but I for one would love to see us win it. Maybe if a more prestigious sponsor was on its name then maybe folk would see it as more of an attraction. Again Mate this is not a go at you but a go at a lot of attitudes towards this trophy/competition.
Re: do you have a problem with this trophy ? When chesterfield won it the other year they got 100k in prize money and on top of that earned 300k in gate reciepts from the final alone.
Well, that's what I was thinking. And I know North and South kept apart so wondered if they do same with East and West until the semi-finals (otherwise known as the Regional Final to make it sound better)
Just looked at last year's competition and it is split into North East and North West so we only play a team in the North East who haven't had a bye to round 2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013–14_Football_League_Trophy#Northern_section
So the first 2 rounds will be north-east games, high chance of a local derby then, which is probably the idea (and cut down travel costs).
Re: do you have a problem with this trophy ? I know this is going all Washday but £400 k on the day a bit more in gate receipts through the rounds, not having folks getting ridiculously excited about the paintpot trophy......priceless
