https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/2799...hute-payment-leicester-leeds-southampton/amp/ Shocking that the cash goes to PL clubs not EFL clubs. Over a million quid would make a huge difference to many of the 72 clubs.
Would certainly be interesting if parachute payments were scrapped. Not necessarily overnight, but maybe decreased each season until gone. just take the 3 relegated clubs this season. Luton W6 Burnley W5 & Blunts W3. They’ve had a the Prem money, not been good enough, back to normality.
Its like MPs when they vote for their own pay rise.. You'd have to somehow remove there power or they're always going to vote for a safety net. Because the power in the Premier league is with the clubs
I get why they still exist - they allow clubs promoted to the PL to sign players without fear of being unable to pay them if they go back down. They’re important to help clubs compete in the Premier League. But they skew the Championship in a ridiculous way. My solution would be to tie them in to the contracts of the players they sign in the Prem. You can have parachute payments to cover those contracts and costs associated with relegation, but you can’t sign new players with them.
Back on the article itself - was this a rule change at some point? I’m sure I remember this being different in the past, with that money being split amongst the EFL clubs. Might be wrong
