Who's been before? Anyone recommend owt? Thinking about taking ar lass for her birthday in August. Any decent websites/deals? cheers
Great city. I'll try and dig out the promos for the place we stayed a couple of years ago. It was quite cheap, quite central, and very hospitable. Funnily enough we went to the Eiffel Tower and came upon two coaches from Wombwell
Was one of them Johnny Coachman? I know you must have been excited to see him but to come on him up the Eyeful Tower was a bit over the top.
Been several times If you havent been you should go Stay in an Ibis -or the hotel Britannique (was good a few years ago - cant vouch for now) first time visit you need to do the tourist things - Eiffel tower, Notre Damme, Sacre Cour , Bateau Mouche on the Seine maybe a trip to Versailles but make sure just to sit in the cafe's and chill avoid the main tourist traps for meals - cafes on the Champs Elysees charge 3 times the prices and arent as good as the ones 2 or 3 blocks away Metro is good for getting around - or just walk best resteraunt I found for a decent nosh in the evening www.lapouleaupot.fr
RE: Was one of them Johnny Coachman? Never came upon the inhabitants of the coaches on account of the queues being so long to go up the tower i thought '**** that!'. The option of walking was on offer, if memory serves me right (?), but myself and the wench had had a jolly good round the previous night so we passed on the opportunity of a spot of athleticism on a truly historical monument. We did but a postcard though
Pretend to only speak French when the Romanian beggars start pestering you in English.
Works a treat.

Fly from Leeds with Jet2, but book plenty in advance You should get good deals if you do.
If you go to the Eiffel Tower go very early in the morning because the queues are massive. A night time trip on the River Seine is worthwhile, especially when the lights on the tower are put on, looks spectacular.

Get to all the touristy stuff early, the queues can be massive.
I hope you don't mind lots of walking up/down stairs and heights, cos I found the most interesting stuff was up high.
Walk up to the first level of the eiffel tower, the queues are tiny compared to the lift. If you want to go to the top, you can by a ticket from the first level and miss most of the queueing.
You can go up round the roof of the sacre coeur, Lots of stairs and narrow stairways, but stunning views.
Go up the tower of notre dame, lots more stairs but worth a visit.
Go up the montparnasse tower, its only an office block, but its cheap, and has great views from the roof.
Go up the arc d'triomphe. Again lots more stairs.
The louvre was ok, but can be very busy, and unless you are a serious art fan, it can be a bit big and drag on, I preferred the Musee d'orsay. The actual louvre building was more interesting that some of the art, and worth having a wander on a night through the courtyards even if you don't go in.
I liked the nightlife/cafes round the latin district. Lager is very expensive, its worth drinking cheap wine if you don't mind that kind of thing. You can get a cheap bottle for not much more than a pint.

Romanian beggars in Paris too eh? And I thought they were exclusive to Manchester. Every single Big Issue seller plot is occupied by a Romanian these days.
Good recommendations Definately on the Mussee d'Orsay, much better than the Louvre. Don't go on a Sunday though because its free and is rammed with locals and has long ques. Definately go to the Pantheon in the latin quarter - not a well known tourist attraction but an absolute gem. Stunning inside and the burial place of the famous French. beautifl elegant city, definately recommend it
Montmartre is a beautiful part of the city, like a little village but still near the city centre, and you get great views back across to the Eiffel tower. There is a fantastic little fondue restaurant there (can't remember its name, so not much help really!), where you drink wine from baby's milk bottles (complete with rubber teat!).
