Euro Millions winner Colin Weir has successfully bought home town Club Partick Thistle to effectively fend off the interest of a " foreign" consortium. His apparent aim is to hand over the Club as a gift to Particks very loyal fans group in time for next season. What a tremendous gesture. Let's hope they can make a success of it.
Partick fans have dodged a bullet there and got someone with their best interests at heart. Good luck to them.
I don't think Partick have dodged a bullet. This consortium would have been able to make a better fist of things up in Scotland for a smaller outlay. It wouldn't have taken that much to qualify for Europe and get to a few cup semi finals.
Fantastic gesture, just hope doesn’t come back and bite them as Fan owned clubs don’t tend to have the financial side needed to be successful. That said lot cheaper to run & compete in Scotland. Good luck to them
I kind of agree, but my head is telling me that "best interests at heart" count for nothing in todays football! ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
Further details below. Looks like he had invested quite an amount previously before there was a disagreement with the Board. Best solution all round for the fans. Pleased for them that it's sorted out. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport...colin-weir-completes-partick-thistle-20925027
It wouldn't take that much, but only if they avoided selling everyone to an English club or rangers and Celtic every transfer window
They are rock bottom of the Scottish championship a minimum of 3rd in the premiership is needed to qualify for European competition or win the cup. to say it wouldn't take much to qualify for Europe from the position they are in now using the methods employed so far by the investors i would say nigh on impossible is being very generous. reading up the lottery winners had promised to gift the club 6 million for a new training ground a few years ago And they had already gifted the club 2.5 million to make them debt free. bear in mind they had no connection to the club in any way apart from being a supporters while doing this. Just gifting the club money . i would say a reasonable assessment of the situation was that our investors were hoping to piggyback take advantage of the past and ongoing bankrolling of the club by the lottery winners. debt free a new 6 million pound training facility under way making the company more valuable and all for nothing. Very sneaky or maybe some would say underhand actually but guess no big surprise to anybody.
Great stuff and hes also being very smart actually by not wanting to own the club It is very easy as we have seen at many other clubs with owners who probably have no bad intentions at all to start with or ever actually towards the club. but end up getting dragged down the rabbit hole of putting more and more money into the club then see no way out apart from putting more money in chasing bad money from higher bills from players wages, transfer fees; under preforming players they have bought etc to try and rescue the situation. And end up with nothing left themselves and huge debts for the club.
Sorry. Just trying to point you in the direction of perhaps a bargain. A club for a tenner. Not really worth any more than that. Lol
Our owners have repeatedly said they won't won their own money to fund Barnsley. If they can run it at a profit without spending a penny why can't people who actually care about the club do that?
https://www.nottheoldfirm.com/news/barnsley-partick-thistle-takeover-conway/amp/ Apparently Conway wanted to make them into the 'third force' behind the old firm. Absolutely unbelievable. He's a better imagination than Billy liar.
