From 23 seconds in. Always loved John Helm. **** quality video, mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=33&v=RC6EFzy4_wE
Pass of the season was Ramage yesterday. Miscontrolled it allowing the opposition to close him down, so simply booited it in the general direction of the goal, as much to just get rid as find a Barnsley player. Straight to Winnall to slot home. He couldn't have done that with all the time in the world.
I know, we had considerably more than usual too. It's one of the few games this side of Christmas where we genuinely did create enough chances to win it. 5 shots on target, as many as the Colchester, Preston, Sheff Utd and Orient matches combined.
And think of the abuse he used to get. The bloke who sits next to me used to be slagging him off constantly.
wish we could have got Butts back instead of Hudds getting him but he wasnt going to drop to league one.
Thing is, I've seen him do that three times this season, each time releasing Scannell with the exact same weight of pass from the same area in midfield. But Scannell's never given it the finish it warranted, until yesterday.
He says he can't remember hearing any stick when he played for us. But he says it was quite close to the bone last season when we played Boro, especially at the Riverside. He'd done that WSB interview for me a week before that or summat, bigging us up, and here he was getting absolute abuse for no other reason than leaving the club having performed well (and nearly getting crippled) whilst playing for us. Never seen Stonesy get anything but good luck/wishes. Both did the same thing. Moved on in the hope of bettering themselves. I'd like to think the next time he's playing against us he'll get a better crowd reaction.
He could have stayed it out at Boro, in and out the team etc, their fans adored him, the manager didn't. But when Huddersfield said they wanted him as part of the Clayton deal, he took the opportunity. He realises it didn't work out after leaving us, but he doesn't regret it. He was offered a Prem shot and on stupid money. But aye, he saw Town as the perfect club to get back to his old self, to play every week, to stand out at a club very similar in size to Barnsley. And it's been a great decision. He's played every game, more minutes than any other player, has scored great goals, created many and will win their POTY award I reckon. Told him last week, he's come full circle. He's back playing/starring in a second tier struggling side, scouts are all over him, some very interesting clubs watching him. Selfishly, I hope he stays at Huddersfield for years. It takes us half hour to get there to watch him, he always plays and is regarded their best player. He's paid well for a second tier player too. Why risk that? Ambition. If he's offered a bigger move again on better money he'll take it, I think. Can't blame him. He's as good if not better than the likes of Delph, Cleverley, Henderson and other English midfielders of his age group.
You know I think he's quality mate but I'm not having he's as good as Henderson, that lads improved beyond recognition the last couple of years and is one of the best in the country. Wish we had the pleasure of watching Jacob every week and he'd never get anything other than appreciation from me. That half a season as captain he lit up Oakwell. Oh to see us play like that now.
It's an unfair statement from me really, as I don't watch Henderson as often as I do Jacob. But I'd love to see Jacob alongside the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho, Sterling et al. I mentioned the other two as he grew up with them, fellow Bradford lads. In fact, r lass used to take both Jacob and Tom to Carrington every week. I blame her for Cleverly playing for England.
