I did not attend today, and it is rare for me to attend away games. Nevertheless, I was not surprised when I saw the result. Frankly, neither am I surprised to see the reaction on the BBS, and you only have to go back 8 or 9 pages to put this reaction into perspective. I seem to spend a lot of time on here urging people to be patient. For those who do not understand the meaning of the word, I have included below a little summary. Patience is : Recognising that there will be good performances and bad, and not over-reacting to either. Recognising that the team is young, and that its development will not run smoothly. Recognising that the slow development of youth is the only way to go in this unequal world of professional football. Recognising that team building is not at an end, and that it may take three or four windows to be completed and that the team should not be judged with the job half done. Recognising that promotion is not worth the effort if it is not built upon solid foundations. Recognising that the main reason the team is struggling now, is that there have been too many management changes in the past. Recognising that the club has to learn from its mistakes in the past and stick with its current manager through thick and thin. Recognising that the reason you support Barnsley Football Club is not because you expect success. Recognising that the reason you support Barnsley Football Club is because you are identifying with the place where you were born, and the values that this place has given you. Recognising that the values that this place has given you make you strong enough to take the knocks, and to keep your faith in spite of them. Patience is all of the above, whilst having the freedom to have a good moan when they lose. Just as long as you get over it and come back stronger for the next game.
This is the most important point for me. Patience is needed and we have to come back the next game and support the lads, but people absolutely have the right to criticise a poor performance that they've just paid good money to witness. People calling others "moaners" for daring to call out a poor performance get on my tits more than people who persistently criticise.
Patience is the wrong word. Patience implies that if you wait, something good might happen. It may not. And you finish your post saying "just as long as you get over it and come back stronger for the next game", which implies that if this does not happen then your average fan is quite entitled to lose patience, and by your definition it may happen very quickly. I always think that cautioning patience in others attracts the whiff of patronization. Explaining it, especially to the ones who went today, and it becomes a stench. Everyone is allowed to draw their own conclusions upon today's events. What they draw beyond that is for them. You should concentrate on their loyalty. Beyond patience.
In the words of the Good Lord: "Blessed are those who expect little; for they shall not be disappointed."
Fair comment jamo but there are some who hijack every thread to have moan . at least Conan either starts his own threads or comments on threads that are consistent with his topics ,unlike other certain posters. This is not a Conan Troutman appreciation post just an observation.
Moaning for mornings sake and being destructive with it gets on my tits. Moaning and offering constructive criticism is an altogether different thing.
Patience doesn't necessarily imply something good will happen. I would still maintain we need three things as fans Trust Faith Patience And given your comments lets now add a fourth.......loyalty. TFPL
No it isn't if its one **** game after another and another and another even with the odd goodan inbetween.
You always have a choice.......... If you cant be patient or are unable to out faith in the management team or are unable to show the loyalty that supporting a football club demands or cant trust the management team to take us forward, then vote with your feet, because unless you can demonstrate the above its pointless supporting Barnsley. Stay at home and support Barcelona or Real Madrid. Better quality of football and they will win every 11 out of 12 games which kinda meets your criteria.
Top man red rain, think we all want that but with so many years off hurt were suffering from so many bad football seasons were all automatically seeing the bad. theres so much wrangle surrounded our club with managers saying were ****, coming and going, chairman fecking things up and owner that doesnt know if he wants to stay or go. But this time we seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet or it looks that way,and i think success is just around the corner
Either way no one person will be right, some people just like spouting s h i t when after all its not that complicated, its all there to be seen.
