I was well impressed with the lad, 3 or 4 40yd cross field passes in the second half were top drawer. I thought all the young uns looked good, I hope they all get a chance at some time this season.
looked head and shoulders above the rest, literally! liked the look of jordan clarke too, really unlucky to have not scored with that rocket off the bar.
I'll join in with this thread, as the other one has just turned into Hemsworth baiting (or shooting fish in a barrel as it is otherwise known, funnily enough done by people who don't come across as much brighter). Digby today looked ruddy fantastic. Composed, always looking for the ball, great vision and looking like he spent his 'year out' eating cow pies. And coming after a lacklustre first half from our midfield, Perkins aside, who played his typical great performance, you get the impression that we will be seeing much more of him. If Digby stays fit and gets a run in the side, we will all be on here in January bemoaning the meagre transfer fee we get from Everton/etc for him. Jordan Clark looked good tonight too, as did Chris O'Grady, but he always does.
Speaking of youngsters coming through, can't believe Alastair Taylor ended up at Alfreton. From the little I saw he looked very promising too. What happened?
Wish they'd hurry up and put the game on player I wanna watch these passes again in the context of what the opposition were doing and how much pressure he was under...if he can do this in championship games with the right player latching onto then it could be an excellent tactic for us as a back up to hoofing it to O'Grady!
The lad did very well when he came on However, i think it's appropriate to keep a bit of context here. This was just a pre season friendly, although an enjoyable one. In my opinion, over the top praise or criticism of players based on such games is a bit baffling. It was good to see so many youngsters appearing to be very comfortable with the ball and Digby was definitely the pick of the bunch. Hopefully, they'll all make a positive contribution to the first team squad this coming season. But it was only a pre season friendly.
Re: The lad did very well when he came on Totally agree, I've seen it both ways - seemingly walking over teams in pre-season and then looking miles off the pace when the season starts, and having a shocking pre-season and doing OK. Not sure how much effort the Club Brugge players were putting in but there were occasions where their players were whacking the ground in frustration after failing to score from good positions, and the player who went in hard on Mellis after he had made him look like a fool a couple of times. Couldn't have asked for more from Digby though, dispossessed the opposition with ease, didn't dally on the ball and managed to pick out a perfect 40 yard pass time after time in the same manner that most other players would only be able to whack the ball aimlessly up the pitch.
Digby will have to earn His place in the starting line up once the league season gets under way. However, especially when taking into account just how long he's been out injured, his return & display last night was really pleasing. As you quite rightly say, it's difficult to think what more the young lad could do.
Re: The lad did very well when he came on Level headed reason, very good...The team ,tactics and personnel will all change between now and the start of the season..and of coarse beyond...injuries, loss of form, other players still to come in ?..and who knows...maybe a surprise departure, we do seem over-staffed in midfield, and they all can't play..
Good stuff, mate Easy the lad back gradually, then hopefully he'll be fit & ready for the new season. No need to rush.
Re: The lad did very well when he came on I think they can all play quite well actually. Reet midfield.
