The early favourites to replace Neale Cooper as Gillingham manager appear to be Ronnie Jepson and Andy Hessenthaler.

Initial indications are that fans would back a management team of Jepson, assistant under Cooper, and the ever-popular Hess, who spent four years in the Priestfield hotseat.

Other names in the frame include Paul Hart, the former Nottingham Forest and Barnsley boss, Dennis Wise, now back with his boots on at Southampton after guiding Millwall into Europe, and Keith Curle, who has built up a decent reputation with Mansfield and Chester.

Slightly more bizarrely, Carlton Palmer is also being linked with the job, despite his failures with Stockport County and Mansfield.
