http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/InsideOakwellDetail/0,,10309~968701,00.html BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey has hit out at Southend United after the Roots Hall club made a 'derogatory' offer for striker Paul Hayes just hours before the two teams met in last week's FA Cup Third Round replay at Oakwell. Paul was missing from the squad that travelled to Luton Town last weekend although Simon has insisted that the decision was made with the best interests of the player in mind and the former Scnuthorpe United hitman will not be leaving the Club on the cheap. Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Simon said: "Southend United came in with an offer for Paul just hours before we were due to play them in the Cup last Tuesday. "Their actions have unsettled Paul greatly - he is a Southend boy and has made no secret of his desire to move back down South over the last 12-months or so. Paul's mind was not right after they made their bid last week and it was in his best interests that he did not play at Luton. "There is no way whatsoever that this Club will allow Paul - or any player - to leave unless it is in the best interests of Barnsley FC. Southend's bid was nowhere near our valuation of Paul". Paul joined the Reds in the summer of 2005 after agreeing a deal with the Club after his contract expired at Scnuthorpe United. Following a tribunal, the Reds paid the Glanford Park outfit a significant six-figure transfer fee to secure his services. The 23-year-old striker was an integral part of the Barnsley squad that won promotion last season and has featured regularly in the starting level in the Championship this season. He has hit 18 goals in 84 first team games for the Club.
When a player wants to leave its a very difficult position to be in. very brave of the manager to leave him behind, imagine if we'd have lost. credit to Davey for taking that decision.
HOW TWO FACED IS THAT Hit out at making derogatory offers for our players. After we insulted Rotherham with our bid for Williamson, and the original bid for Mattis???? Do they think were thick?????
well he's been poor past few weeks anyway.... so maybe he was going to get dropped anyway? i like hayes, but i get the impression that he thinks hes bigger and better than what he actuallyis. rather like nads! on that subject, couldnt get down to Luton so just wondering how Nardiello did the waster!
dint see much of him ok, he played the pass to Howard for the 1st goal but he dint really have much impact in the game. won a couple of headers tho which is more than normal
RE: As he had a shave yet!!!??? nt no, said he is saving it till he next gets a goal! could be down to his knees at this rate till he cuts it!!
I think the timing was the key and I think Williamson would probably gone for 250-300k on his own so I would not say our bid was derogatary. Funny how people on here like to slag off their own club at the first opportunity even when it is little at fault.
you arent wrong mate it seems some folk love any reason to have a go at our club , leave em alone and they will sort it...
Prediction Eastwood to Everton! & looks likely Hyes will go how much is he worth..? I think we should get minimum £400k for him...
wonder if Moyes has read this? http://boards.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=970&p=16&forumid=3114&action=1&replytoid=530259655&style=1
Terrible man management. If someones not fit to do the job then why are we paying him? Should have fined him if he doesn't want to play.
