Never really understood the stick that Hayes gets from certain fans saying that he is a "lazy" player. Have to say that not only did he put in a man of the match performance today he must have covered more ground than any other player. Very well done Paul!!
Don't think he's lazy, just a bit soft..... .....I don't think he likes a physical challenge or tackle, he's got plenty of talent - Mike Sheron was exactly the same and frustrated the fans too
RE: Don't think he's lazy, just a bit soft..... Hayes does what he is paid to do, score goals, Mike Sheron, piss poor in relation to Hayes
I read somewhere that he refuses to do any upper body work........ probably why he doesn't like mixing it
RE: I read somewhere that he refuses to do any upper body work........ I've read that too. Think it might have been the play off final programme? I cant remember.
Because Paul Hayes does not like/do any upper body exercises. He is known as 'grandad body' That's why the players did the press ups after the equaliser.
RE: Because The only thing Hayes and Sheron have in common is they both have obvious ability. Sheron never maximised his ability as he only played when he wanted to and refused to dig in when required. Hayes was not only plucking hopeless long balls out of the air with instant control and laying them off to Mcindoe or Howard or Davaney, but also tracked back when we lost the ball. In fact I recall Stoke having a counter attack and Hayes bust a gut to slide in and intercept a pass on the edge of his own penalty area. Maybe I have a bad memory, but I don't remember Sheron ever going in his own half.
The abuse Hayes gets has just become tiresome.. Today, he was excellent. Showed more strength than Richards in holding the ball up, linked up play, worked very hard, scored a very good goal to level the game, his 4th goal in 5 league games, and STILL people around me shouted "Get Hayes off!". It defies belief.
I couldn't give a flying f*ck whether he scores his goals in open play (3 of the 4, by the way) from penalties, with his left, right, his head, his hand, or his knee, as long as he scores. He's the top goalscorer in the Championship, in the team with the most goals in the Championship, and people still somehow criticise our strikers, when its blatantly obvious that the strikers are under so much pressure to keep scoring goals because they know that the defence are going to let in at least 2 in every game.
Well played Paul, some of us can see it and are willing to give you credit.
PS: Darrell, if you want to bet on whether Hayes can manage 7 more goals this season from open play, I'll take you up on it.

Not an Hayes fan, but yesterday was the best I have seen him play in a Barnsley shirt. The negative side of Hayes for me has been the number of moves that have broken down when the ball was passed to him in previous matches and there was much improvement yesterday in relation to that side of his game.Lets hope it stays that way.
