Don't know how he managed to get a job with Sky as a pundit. Can hardly string enough words together to form a sentence.
Gosh - I cannot remember seeing a player that had so much influence in a game. What would you give to have someone like him in your team playing like that each week?
I've seen a lot over the years - Best, Charlton, Dalgeish, Rush, Vialli, Zola, Bergkamp, Shearer to name but a few, but his performance that day was unforgettable. The whole crowd rose to him, knowing they had seen something very special.
Yes, definitely! Loved how the entire stadium gave him a standing ovation when he was substituted - he truly was world class and no idea why the hell he was playing 2nd tier football. Gianluca Vialli was different class too. Also I remember Ricky Otto having a storming game for Southend I believe (or had he gone to Birmingham by this time? - I still think it was Southend).
On t'other side of coin, can recall watching Bale as raw youth with Southampton and thinking that other than a decent dead ball delivery he was poor...ooops.
He's looking more like Ricky Tomlinson from the Royals every day particularly when puts those glasses on
I'll never forget watching him as a 16 year-old left back playing at Oakwell. Martin Devaney was playing down our right and absolutely had him on toast, tore him a new proverbial, so much so that Bale was substituted at half time!! Quite a feather in Disco's cap to be able to say he's done that to the world's most expensive player. I bet he lets the young lads he coaches know, and it's definitely one for the grandkids!!
Prosinecki was different class. I remember Daniel De Ridder absolutely mullering us during a pre season friendly against Wigan too. Looked an absolute world beater but subsequently never did owt.
Redknapp on him - "I went to Barnsley with a man called Robert Prosinecki who is one of the best footballers I have seen in my whole life. He was a genius. Played for Barcelona, Real Madrid, you name it. This man was on another planet. He went to Barnsley one night and I have never seen a performance like it in my whole life. He got a standing ovation when I took him off with four minutes to go – 14,000 people stood up, clapping him. He was that good. Good players can play anywhere. If they can't play at Barnsley then they are not top players."
