I spent about 100 quid on getting one of those fancy DAB radio things and it can't tune in to Radio Sheffield when I live in Penistone! I could sit outside in the car on the drive and listen to it but I am thinking that might look a bit weird..
yeah but when I search for stations, radio sheffield comes up but the sound is just blank as if it is out of range. I can always listen to Heart FM and XFM which softens the blow of course.
BBC Response Regarding Local DAB The coverage area of Local Digital Radio multiplexes was determined by the Ofcom as part of the licence awarded to the multiplex operator. All Local Digital Radio multiplexes are operated by commercial radio organisations that in turn carry the relevant BBC local radio service in that particular area. The BBC therefore has no direct control on the final coverage area. However, most multiplex operators have the ability to increase their coverage area by adding additional transmitters and will potentially go this route as take-up of Digital Radio grows The BBC is working closely with all Local Digital Radio multiplex operators to improve coverage and reception and are investigating other options to improve coverage of our local radio services on DAB. That reply was in 2005....
RE: BBC Response Regarding Local DAB When I bought my parents one I was amazingly dissapointed at the reception and range - most of the stations they listen to were far better on FM. I've read that DAB might end up being one of those technical innovations that never takes off, like Betamax, and it could get pulled. Don't know how true that is.
