    Why would Mido's agent link him with Barnsley if we hadn't made an approach?

    Didn't mean that, I was on abart Sky Sports saying the deal was nearly done.

    So the Agent will have jumped the gun, alerted everyone that his client is thinking about little ol' Barnsley and, in other words, welcome offers from any bigger club.

    I think you under estimate what a selling point Keith Hill's record with developing players is, though...

    I think you may be over estimating Keith's reputation if you believe that an international footballer who has played for Tottenham, Roma and Ajax will receive any kudos from being linked with us.

    Oh ar, no kudos, people will just think he's f.cking lost it.

    I'm just saying that we've made an approach, the agent's made it public to get people aware he's available and if he's considering us he must be willing to consider other Championship clubs.

    I think we will have leaked the approach. Like we seem to have done with most of our targets this close season.

    "Look at who we're trying to sign. We're a club on the up don't you know. Come sign for us if you want to be at a great club next season."

    Even if we don't sign Mido, which I don't think we will, it won't have hurt our reputation at all to be linked with him. I can see more benefits for us to be linked with him than him with us.

    If that's what we're doing then I don't think it's a bad tactic. Our reputation is at rock bottom. Why not try to boost it a bit. Get the fans excited and get the football world looking at what we're doing.

    "Mido was considering signing for Barnsley. Maybe it's a club I should consider joining."

    We've never had one before

    But maybe Keith Hill has decided to start one. We've never before known about who we're trying to sign. That has always been our policy. But at the moment we seem to know about everyone. And it's not just paper talk. Barnsley FC are confirming it. That seems to me to be a deliberate strategy.

    The problem then is when it blows up in our face when we sign Mansfield's reserve target man after Mido doesn't sign.

    But look at how many people are getting giddy about signing Mido. Look at all the press we're getting. It's not hurting us at all.
