Didn't make sense for her to go really it was obvious she weren't fit enough, and in going shes done another Marthon lass out of a place....But come 2012 I'd lay a bet on her winning Gold....Doesn't take away the fact that she shouldn't have appeared at this one though....
She finished 2nd out of the 4 British women She didn't keep anyone better out of the team. The 4th British woman finished 15 minutes after she did.
But the worst thing about the women's marathon was the commentators obsession with her at the expense of the other Brits in the race. Steve Cram and Brendan Foster only gave Liz Yelling a bit of attention when she went arse over tit and virtually ignored the lesser known Mara Yamauchi for the vast majority of the race, despite the fact she was always in the leading pack and still had a real chance of a medal until the last 2 or 3 km. Those who didn't watch the race live (best watched by muting the sound and just looking at the captions), probably don't know that Yamauchi finished 6th - the highest finish ever by a womens GB marathon runner in the Olympics! Nothing much has been made of that!
Ppaula Radcliffe only seems to be bothered when it come to the races that stump up the cash She never seems to have a problem during those races !!!!!
Fully justified her place, 2nd Brithish runner to finish it was a reward for completly re writing the book on womens marathon racing, she knew she was never going to get a medal but to achieve what she did last night on only 3 weeks road training was exceptional, before the race i would have provbably agreed someone else should have gone but after staying up til 3:20 this am to watch it my admiration for her, which had waned a bit recently was restored, her performance was a credit, and re the self obsession, at the end all she was concerned about was getting medical attention for Liz Yelling, who along with Paula and Ma@@@@ ran a great race, to me we saw 3 great performances last night
What rubbish She's just put herself through immense pain to finish the Olympic marathon, a race where no money is on offer, only a couple of months after being diagnosed with a stress fracture and with next to no training. It was an extremely gutsy run by an extremely gutsy athlete. It always amazes me how quick people are to slag someone off.
It was a suspected stress fracture ! ready made excuse ? Do they not have x-ray machines where she lives?
RE: It was a suspected stress fracture ! Can't have been that scanner we have at Oakwell then! Or maybe that's why she thought she was fit to run!
She's been one of our best athletes for years It's probably going to be her last Olympics why not try and push herself to run! Push herself through 26+ miles at that! Then again it's another great British sport - knock the successful ones ! </p>
She did actually finish this one , got to give her her dues on that. But she always seems to do better when its a money race. Paula said last week, she had a suspected stress fracture and she was going to do her best. She was on radio 2 news. If I misheard what she said I am quite willing to send her my utmost appologies. That OK now.
They're difficult to identify I was once diagnosed with suspected stress fracture in my shin. The x-ray showed nothing but that's what they concluded.
