Make sure that you haven't got any external storage devices (mp3 player, USB stick, etc) connected to your computer. Also make sure that there's no discs in the CD / DVD drives (or floppy disk if you've still got a floppy drive...)
I don't think that those will solve your problem though, to me it sounds like there's something wrong with one (or more) of your "memory chips".
Heyup mate... This is not uncommon, we see it quite regularly at work. Give this a whirl: 1.Turn on your PC, and you're going to need to get into the BIOS. 2.Access the system BIOS. Set the drive type as None or Not Installed. Load BIOS Defaults Load SETUP Defaults 3.Save the BIOS changes and reboot the PC to a System Boot Diskette. 4.Shut down the PC after the memory count is displayed. 5.Reconnect the power and interface cables to the hard drive. 6.Access the System BIOS. 7.Auto-Detect the hard drive. Ensure that the LBA Mode option is enabled. 8.Save the BIOS changes and boot the PC with a System Diskette. 9.Partition and format the hard drive via the operating system. 10.Reboot the system. On bootup, the screen should read: Verifying DMI Pool Data Update Successful. If not, let me know.
It's not the memory... At times, some systems may experience hang conditions after partitioning, formatting and initial bootup of a hard drive. The message, "Verifying DMI Pool Data" appears and the system hangs. This condition sometimes continues after the drive has been removed. Try out what I said below. That's usually the first way to get past the 'hang'. We do that quite often at work. If that doesn't work, let me know.
There is also some pretty useful advice on here.. http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/268422-cant-pass-verifying-dmi-pool.html
eyup mate, cheers for that, i have loaded it up and gone in the bios, well i think it is(when i press del) brought up a blue screen, i went in the second option which is advanced bios feaures. there is then virus warning (disabled) cpu internal cache (enabled) external cache (enabled) cpu l2 cache ecc checking (enabled) quick power on self test (enabled) hard disk boot priority (press enter) first boot device (cdrom) second boot device (floppy) third boot device (hard disk) boot other device (enabled) dont no whether you need to no anymore mate, if so let me no.
Do you have a spare HD or know someone who has one, I'd first of all check to see if the system does boot to another HD You will get a No operating system warning but at least you know it will pick up another hard drive. problem then is if your operating system is ghosted onto a partition of that drive then you have to think about another way........... if you get to that point and it is the HD thats buggered give us a shout there's ways round it.
RE: check out that monitor... how stoneage is THATTTT nt The problem is not with the monitor is it ****** (wnkr) (asshole)
