OK I've looked on the internet and I can't find anything so ...
I'm reasonably techically aware (just enough to be dangerous) and I'm trying to install aUSB/Firewire combo card, plugged it in and my PC won't recognise it. Should be plug and play, but it isn't. It's a cheap Chinese brand (Mercury- KOB1394U2), so I'/m thinking of putting it on Ebay and buying another, but before I do ...
Anyone know a good message board or internet resource where I might get help to diagnose the problem, or can offer advice.
If I do just give up on this one and buy a replacement ... what am I looking for to check it's compatable?

Is it on here - says something about drivers when I googled it www.mercury-pc.com/product-detail.php?link=p-addcards&subtitle=Add-On%20Cards&productid=517

Don't think it needs power because The Firewire port is working
When I try to plug things into the USB though I get a message saying
"USB device not recognised"
I get an icon that I click on and then get device status
"No drivers are installed for this device. If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter."
The drivers on the disk won't install, becasue I'm on service pack 2 and they seem to want service pack 2
I'm downloading the drivers from the link you gave me and trying to install them. Thanks

Go to control panel System - hardware - universal serial bus (USB) - right click on it and it should come up with scan for hardware changes - try clicking on tht see if it does anything
RE: Go to control panel Gives me a scanning message for less than a second ... but doesn't give any results or seem to do anything
Try these! http://www.pctechbytes.net/forums/

Or these :
http://www.tes.co.uk/section/staffroom/list_threads.aspx?path=/ict/

you have to register for both but someone might help

I think I might have found the problem There is no USB2 controller in the device manager ... which means I don't have a usb2 driver installed
I need to find the manufacturer of the USB controller I have ... and download their driver ... apparently there are only 6.
I'm not quite sure how I find that out but ... google will hopefully help.
I'll try those links you gave me as well and see how I get on
