Has anyone else had this problem before...

Cut a long story short I have just bought a wireless adapter for PC, it worked fine initially an then after a few hours lost connection...... I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting it but message says "usb device malfunctioned and is not recognized" I have rebooted the PC and re-installed software and still nothing, and other new devices that have previously worked without any problems are also unrecognized??? It appears to be an intermitent problem as the following day it will often be working again, but then for what ever reason the problem re-occurrs.

I wondered at first if it was the USB adapter overheating? I bought a new another make and model to test my theory and same happens. I have had a quick look on a few PC forums and it looks to be a common problem but, solutions do not appear to be so straight forward. The Two USB wireless adapters I have are a Belkin and a Netgear WGT111T. PC is running windows XP. Any assiatance or advice would gratefully be appreciated. Thank you.

<p class="MsoNormal">Do system restore to before the date/ as near to the date you installed wireless adaptor. (it should remove it from your hard drive system) then load it again to see what happens. (givinfinger)

uninstall any software via Add/Remove programs.

    then go to:

Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Network Adaptors

see if you can find the hardware there, then right click and disable/remove (not sure what the option is)

    reboot.

plug it into USB, try again. or, try a different USB slot

try a different usb port, if it doesnt work try searching the net to find the driver for the wireless adapter (obviousl connecting via ethernet cable) install that, it should work, if not try disabling firewalls, running virus scans all usual crap like that.

if it still doesnt work try windows update, still no luck? try going into device manager and uninstall usb port that it is in and then restart pc reinstall it and then try the usb again.

if not happy surfing, or wait for one of the more technical people to come online
