All over our forums now >> http://thefishy.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1432761540/s-new/

Arguably our most consistent player over the last number of seasons, a lot of our fans thought he would end up in the league, but probally a lot including myself surprised it's a league one club.

Sad to see him go. :frown:

2 centre halfs from the conference to potentially fill the gaps of Cranie and possibly Nyatanga, doesnt fill me with huge confidence.

Thanks for the link. He sounds like a pretty decent prospect.

We're not going to get anyone capable of replacing Cranie. Just hopeful that Nyatanga stays and one of the young lads steps up.

Would be an odd signing in the Mike Phenix mould.

Although two centre half signings does not fill me with much excitement and there is the big question of "can they cut it in league 1", I have to say I've not actually got a big objection to these two signings! At least they'll both hopefully grasp the opportunity and unlike some of our past players bring some pride, desire and determination to the team! They might not set the league on fire but if they can do a job let's give them ago they've both cost nothing and are probably on smaller wages which will allow LJ to invest most of our money into strikers and flare players! And we can hopefully make a profit out of them since we've paid no fee! And as an added extra Roberts is a Barnsley lad and with this Pearson being from York two Yorkshire lads might actually want to play forbid instead of using us as a stepping stone! After seeing the like of lita and treacy I say give them a chance!

I don't mind a non league signing myself but they have usually made the step up by early 20s if they are capable.

I dont mind us signing lower league players at all, just that I think one think we desperately need is a bit more experience and replacing Cranie, Ramage and possibly Nyatanga with these 2 is a huge risk. Hope im wrong.

Just hope the signings become a little more exciting than LJ has produced so far, going back to Ibehre, Cameron etc.

Cranie doesn't take much replacing in my view. Over rated. Nice "footballer", poor defender

Cranie was the best ball playing defender in the league.

They'll be squad players as we've little defensive backup at centre back at the moment.
Roberts and Pearson are both worth a gamble , if one out of the two is a success then the club would be happy I'd think.
They're not replacing Franz Beckenbauer anyway, Mvoto and Ramage were the reserve defenders who were both boot it into row z type players and both were sh ite

Agree with albertros. Once described as a rolls royce. A luxury player, looks good but not sure do with it on a regular basis in Barnsley.

If they're good enough I don't care where they've come from. For me the better players we had last season were the ones with little to no football league experience whatsoever. Luke Berry for one, should have played more games than he did. Whilst I won't lose too much sleep on Cranie leaving, the fact that we're linked with so many centre half's says that Nyatanga isn't staying which is a shame as he progressed no end last season.

And that makes him a good defender?

No thanks glad he's gone. ..

Take it you didn't see the Swindon centre halves then? Miles better than Cranie with the ball, but just as average at defending. I think it says a lot that LJ is replacing these great centre halves we've had, with non league lads.
