Doesn't make sense to me. Privatisation gives consumers more choice and makes pricing more competitive. Yet the consumer is being bled dry. Or am I missing summat?
Not sure how choice comes into it. Only one company run the trains from Barnsley to Sheffield. Petrol extortionate so can't drive to work. Unless I cycle or walk 15 miles then I am forced to pay what one company charge
Most people don't have any choice - what makes you think this is true? It's a myth. Besides which i don't want choice, i want a train system that works well and that puts money back into the service, not into uk and foreign owned companies pockets.
Like a most things we are told are good for us, the reality proves otherwise...if you go with..all business are not here to do you a favor, but to make as much money as they can..things start to make sense
i honestly don't know how a lot of people can afford to travel by train anymore. i can only assume they don't have a car to pay for, so offset one against the other. i only ever use a train when i'm travelling with work, or the odd journey here and there. and the service is $hit. and they're generally full of cnuts
Me too Tomfun, I occasionally use the trains with work but I wouldn't want to do it frequently. I hear both sides of the argument re: rail fares and while I do have some sympathy with regular users I also don't think the taxpayer should subsidise fares when the company is private.
They've created a private monopoly. At the same time as a report released stating that UK wages rise rates are amongst the lowest inEU we get the train companies putting fares up by at least 4%
