what you see as a striker... if its a guy who hits shots on goal, or a guy who strikes to score. Let me expand. I think we should have more confidence shown from our mid-field to shoot on sight a bit more... the 'Strikers' could then pick up on parried saves by a goalie or a rebound off a post or player... it used to be called 'goal hanging' Dennis Law, Gary Linneker, Sean Goater, to mention a few elders of that trait did just that. In other words scored most of their goals in the penalty area and many in the 6 yard box ... pouncing onto said chances... SOOPER JOHN was a 6yd box predator of great quality. We seem to lack a player of guile who can be in the right place at the right time, one who picks up on ... as I said knock downs , re-bounds, second balls etc. Izzy McCloud was one , but we let him pass by... so what next. I remember a very good partnership once, playing 'up top' for England Emile Heskey and Michael Owen. Many slagged Heskey for his lack of goals for England... however he supplied Owen many... I wish we could find a Heskey/Owen kinda set up for us ... then we would fly. Winnall on his own is never gonna work... and there is seemingly no one there to be his foil. If this is addressed we might have a shot at the top six. If not we could easily be in the bottom six ... and only due to a lack of scoring ability. Looks as if the passing and the quality is ok , but the incision and clinical finish is way way beyond just now. Next season I will be able to grace the hallowed halls of Oakwell every Saturday, from an absence of 5 years or so of intermittent visits ,due to work commitments and family events. I seriously cannot wait ... the joy's of the 4+ hour journey each way... the stupid traffic at the end of the M/A 42 onto the M1.. seriously I am counting the days down till I am able to do it all again.
Re: people saying "not enough shots on goal, strikers needed" can you explainn to me Bloody hell, that was like reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez
also those FIVE years seem like.. "a hundred years of solitude" and next year will feel like "the Autumn of a patriarch" for this BFC fan and yes I used google, simply to get the terms right... I was well aware of the man.
Winnall on his own could work if we supported him by having midfielders make runs off him & past him but we don't
