EG last night on calendar interviewing people in barnsley.. saying barnsley have a dead rough accent mainly why women dont do chat up lines and dont pull.. is it me or are they on about a different barnsley? n the point am trying to make is... if you hate barnsley or dislike us keep it to yourself.. evry place has its bad parts and its ups and downs barnsley just seems to have a lot so why are they picking on us basically
A very strong, broad Barnsley accent is very rough though, and look at the people often interviewed on TV who still use the very strong accent - makes me cringe when people are either unable or unwilling to soften the accent depending on who they are speaking with, not saying the same doesn't happen elsewhere, it's just that I notice it more.
I agree You can pick out a Barnsley accent very easily - very much stronger than the rest of Yorkshire
Would say the likes of Kendray, Lundwood and Grimethorpe areas have the strongest accents. Or mainly dole boys who have never worked in their loves. People at work and abroad ask where I’m from and say I don’t sound like I’m from Barnsley. Think it’s just a minority of say the older generation who still speak with a strong accent. There’s people I know from Chappeltown in Sheff who have stronger accents than most people I know. I was talking an old bloke in Castleford about a month ago and he said something along the lines eyup nar then surry and other strange words. Anyone know what that means? It was like talking in French to me.
its a **** hole full of dole scroungers teenage baby factories with a higher than national level of class a dependants and drug related crime as well as rivaling hull for the number of asylum seekers knocking about.
I'm 23 and I am often told by folks not from Brnsley I have a very srong accent. In Barnsley I hve been told I speak properly! I say eyup and stuff but not all thees and thas all the time. I think you say things without realising though!
Its Ian McMillans fault. Him and his professional Barnsley accent. He's too clever to speak like that.
well said d/t i have to agree... but for the accent thing... when i have been away people hear my dad whos from kendray n they say your from yorkshire rnt u he says yer barnsley n there like bloody hell your accent is well strong and ask him to speak slower and explain correctly.. when i talk to my dad people think i am foreign because they cant bloody understand me.. i have a very strong accent and i am going to try my hardest to bloody well keep it.. i even say it in texts which can get a bit much when texting people not from barnsley.. when i am on the phone at work people dont understand me and i even try and put a posh accent on.. when i ring mi mates off works phone though eveyone is turning round lukin at me n when i have finished asking what you mean thee n tha tarn rarnd darn hill n stuff like that.. n a tener or tweni... if it was upto me evryone from round here would speak with a broad barnsley accent like they use to do seems to me a lot better and makes us unique
if u dont want to be understood fair enough!!! People all over Barnsley have different accents! I can definitely distinguish a Kendray/ Wusbru from Cudeth/Grimey/Shafton and them from Royston etc.
RE: Its Ian McMillans annoying accent... sounds like he is straining for a crap..u reckon ppl think we all sound like that?
