...should be prosecuted. The emergency services are stretched dealing with all sorts and these plonkers go out climbing. It's not as if the snow is unexpected.

Two missing climbers in the Cairngorms have been found safe and well. The two men - who are thought to be from the Highland area and aged 22 and 29 - were spotted by a rescue helicopter from RAF Kinloss and are now being flown to Glenmore Lodge outdoor centre.

agreed. If people go out climbing in ridiculous conditions in order to get a thrill, part of that thrill should be not being rescued and accepting responsibility for being a ****.

    Tricky one

So no health service for fat people who eat too many pies
    or cancer treatment for smokers.....

Lots of us do things for fun, that have a public cost.

The one that gets me, is girls falling off horses the cost to the NHS is massive. but where do you start / stop?

None of the ones you mentioned put peoples lives at risk to save them.

I was waiting for that one

I dont think you will find there are many deaths involved in mountain resue.
The people involved do it because they love it.
I used to be in the cave resue, and we get the same argument.
But actually the numbers of incidents of cavers getting stuck are minor (and the same with hill climbers)
but there are loads of call outs for the public, falling down holes, or more often livestock.

RE: I was waiting for that one

I notice that the operative words were "many deaths" and not "any deaths". The fact remains that in both climbing and caving the people who participate, rely on other people being willing to risk their own lives to save them if they get into trouble.

    Mmm

Not exactly an equivalent risk to setting out climbing in a remote area when you know the weather forecast is bad.

    Probably not

You are much more likely to die of a smoking related illness as a smoker, than a climbing related incident as a climber.

Might not be true for a cave diver. But climbing in the UK is low risk even in the winter

    I cannot speak for climbing,
but cavers dont rely on other people, they rely on cavers.

And as I said cave rescue teams spend much more time rescuing other people than rescuing cavers

Low risk of death or low risk of having to get rescued?

So what is a smoking related rescue?

Never hear of anyone suffering from passive caving

another example is the RNLI - having spent some times with the crews they are as much Adrenaline junkies... they love a call.

    You've misunderstood

I was asking you what you were referring to as low risk re: climbing

Low risk of death or low risk of having to get rescued?

    I understood

Both or minimal. (its just a dull point sorry)

As with caving there are plenty of call outs, but not many rescues.
most people get them selves out with a few scratches.

I know thats what they would say

and what all those in the cave resue would say.

Once I was mug enough to be the dummy for a rescue practice. You would never want to be rescued.

    RE: I understood

It might be dull but those who participate even seem to be arguing about it, judging by the forum I linked to above.
