And then post on internet forums telling everyone just how bad Barnsley and its inhabitants are whilst gleefully pointing out at every opportunity how much nicer it is where they live now than in shitty old Barnsley.

You really are complete ****s and the REAL reason that Barnsley doesn't have the best reputation.

A little analogy: If your wife likes a bit of dogging thats fine, nobody will know. Ok it's not the most respected thing to do but hey, each to their own. If you then go telling anyone and everyone what she likes and post obscene photos of her on the internet then chances are when people start calling her a **** and a whore that its your fault for telling everyone you thick lovely person.

    EH???

care to expand on that. I don't live in Barnsley anymore,my career took me away.I still love my hometown passionately and cannot think of anywhere that outshines Yorkshire as a whole in GB.BUT I also do like where I live now and appreciate other parts of GB for their oustanding beauty too.

Barnsley has character. But there are some characters in every place that lower the tone, druggies, bad-mouthed louts, boy/girl racers big exhausts all hours etc. my biggest issue is littering

I still live in the Barnsley area..........and I travel about all over the country through my job.
I'm always looking for a better place to live than where I live now...............I've yet to find one.

The main reason i'm not a massive fan of Barnsley is that there are too many chavs/scrubbers ect. ect.

The bus station's full of em.

    Some bloody beautiful countryside though.

    Swings and roundabouts innit.

Barnsley was my home for 27 of my 30 years on the planet, but I doubt I'll ever go back there to live. And for a variety of reasons.

But whenever someone asks me where I'm from, I'll always say Tarn, and I'll always defend it to the hilt.

But where I am now is so much better, and again, for a variety of reasons.

Hope that doesn't make me an arse or whatever SuperTyke suggests.

I moved away at 18 but still defend Barnsley to the hilt - I've lived in Liverpool for 24 years but still love the place I was born in

I've never lived in Barnsley in my life, but I'd never say a bad word against the place. I see Barnsley more as my home town than anywhere else, I'd never hear a bad word against the place.

Which category does that put me in?

I left Barnsley 25 years ago, at 18, but it still annoys me slightly when people make fun of where I come from, even though I know they don't mean it maliciously.

Equally though, it annoys me when I go back to Barnsley and I get the p*ss taken out of me for living in the south.

People move mainly to follow their career, not much we can do about it.

    Re: EH???

The reputation of Barnsley has been built by idiots like this. Someone on my FB posted this morning.

The lass who got punched was in Peel Square and aged 35.

Many of the comments are from people who've given up on Barnsley, for a night out, due to cnuts like this.

I live in Manchester now and have since my uni days. My girlfriend who i live with is from Huddersfield and we stayed in manc due to the jobs we got. But i love Barnsley and lately we are talking about buyingva new house there.

Where thinking about the bellfield houses on dodworth road.

Manc is mostly a big mess but i don't diss it. My job takes me all over and Barnsley is a nice place compared to most.

All places have chavs, drunks, thugs, bad areas etc. I was walking around Leeds the other day thinking there was some awful sights with the lufc tatoo on there neck. As a place i love Barnsley and also Liverpool.

    Sorry for the chapter.

And as the night out comment. Barnsley is a quality night out. My uni mates love it.

Every place other than Barnsley is un-policed i take it?

I moved back after eight years. If it wasn't for family reasons I'd still live away.

Barnsley town centre during the day midweek its almost a no go area. It's hideous. The town is blighted with scroates who neither have the gumption to work or even attempt to find work, people with various social addictions and pram warriors.

Still, it took moving away and then moving back to notice this.

They don't need to work, the scruffy *******s end up breeding like rabbits for the benefits and get given 4 bed houses on Brand new Strata estates, where we have to pay 150k-200k to live. Should be outlawed.
