    Hi Wilko,
It doesn't cost anything to download a book - it comes free via Amazon's 'Whispernet' system, all you pay for is the price of the book.
When you get your Kindle from Amazon it is preset for you. All you do is enter your home WiFi/ Network Key and away you go.
Turn the wireless on and get downloading.
I tend to do all my browsing and ordering on my PC, make sure my Kindle is wireless enabled and when I look the books are there as I download them.
You can browse on your Kindle.
If you buy the 3G version, you can download the books anywhere.

Maybe a silly question but is there a way of sharing content from one Kindle to another
