Or would he have stayed on if they had won La Liga & the Champions League. Its a bit Jose Mourinho, didn't he quit Chelsea in similar circumstances once Man United had won the title back?
Yes, Sept 2007 after they had finished runners up to Man United and lost in the Champions League to Liverpool, l think it was.
I think the official line was "Mutual consent" http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/7003912.stm
Jose was sacked. Wouldn’t say Guardiola has bottled it. He’s been a massive success at Barce and the pressure to manage Real Madrid or Barce is 10 times higher than at Manchester Utd for example. Been there since 2009 and won everything and maybe just wants some time to himself which as manager of Barce you don’t get.
Won 13 out of 17 trophies in his time there (I think those were the numbers I heard on radio), it was already being muted that he would leave this season, he only ever has a 1 year deal.
Think it's more a case of he's done all there is to do at Barcelona so now the only way is down with regards to success there. He is right to take a rest before setting his sights on a new challenge. It won't stop rumours of him taking over at Chelsea/England though.
not a case of bottling it more like a massive build up of pressure.Barca got built up to the stage where not only were they expected to win they had to win well in a scintillating manner. Victim of his own success really
Im a bit confused about his contract I keep reading he was on a rolling 1 year contract - isnt that what Robins was on ie the contract always has 1 year to run until either party terminates it effectively either party has ti give a years notice. I think Hills is also a 1 year rolling contract Yet it seems Pep is stepping down at the end of the season. That to me seems he was on a 1 year contract - not a rolling 1 year one or am I missing something... and no he hasnt bottled it - as said above he has won everything and probably feels a bit stale . Now if he really fancies a challenge and something different how about an english championship club with no money?
Re: Im a bit confused about his contract Farnham - I've not read that, I've only read/heard that he was on a one year contract that was reviewed at the end of each season.
Re: Im a bit confused about his contract OK just shoddy BBC journalism then see http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17855980
Re: Im a bit confused about his contract That seems correct as an initial reading. But I'd imagine he's leaving on good terms - it's more than possible the club have given him a bit of leeway and are allowing him to cancel his contract early with no penalty. Forcing him to leave to stay on for another year probably isn't the best way to treat somebody who's been a loyal and successful servant to the club as both player and manager. I've got to give two months' notice to leave my job, but if something came up that meant I absolutely had to leave in one month, I'm confident that there would be some room for negotiation. And I haven't been nearly as successful as Guardiola!
Re: Im a bit confused about his contract Isn't that the point with rolling contracts? They auto renew unless you choose not to.
