According to johnson in his chronicle column he asks himself whether guardiola would have more points than himself as barnsley manager. I cant decide if he is being serious or having a bit of banter with us. Thoughts ?
Not during the 00s, there wasn't enough time in the day. Yer big tart. Doesn't lack confidence and self belief Johnson, does he? Nowt wrong with that, it's actually very beneficial for a manager in any industry, but he ought to tone it down a bit in interviews until he's actually done summat to prove he's as good as he thinks he is.
That would be an outrageous accusation if it wasn't true. If he's sure that what he's doing is right then good - chances are he won't get time to prove it. I do think some of what he says is a bit tongue in cheek to get his point across
pep guardiola uses a very high defensive line to swamp opposition teams and improve the chances of getting more attacking options, we do not, our defensive line never gets high enough to get the bodies into attacking positions to improve scoring chances, so for me mr guardiola would have had more points
Would one of the best football managers in the world perform better than Lee Johnson? Would Usain Bolt run a faster 100 metres than are Albert, my cousin from Kendray? Would Muhammad Ali, in his prime, beat me in a boxing match? The answer to these questions, and many others like them, is yes. No analysis required.
Bit of context if you watch/listen to the interview on Player. He questions himself on everything he does, whether he's doing the right thing at any given time and doing everything that he can do to maximise the points return. "What would Pep be doing that I'm not? You look yourself in the mirror and say 'Can I do more?'"
Old Lee Jay! A master at talking the talk. As regards walking the walk he is floundering like a beached whale !!!
He over thinks things so much and some of his interviews are starting to sound like Hill and Flitcroft. Bit of advice LJ - shut thi trap, get rid of the drones over the training ground, keep it simple on the pitch, pick an attacking formation (especially at home), allow some of the talent that you have recruited to express themselves and get some wins under thi belt, because believe me, most of the opposition in this league would struggle to beat Forest Green never mind Barnsley
Not like you to abandon analysis Jay! I disagree. Two of the things you mention involve physical conditioning and motor skills, which rely on either a lifetime of training or exceptional natural fitness. Football management is about choices, rational decisions and method which might work in one situation but not another. Look at the wealth of playing talent Guardiola's had to work with at Barca and Bayern. It's not the same as asking him to work with average players, and who knows whether a Mourinho, Ferguson or Guardiola would see us do any better? It's not a cut and dried argument anyway.
His interviews Mr Albatross bear no resemblence to what has happened in the 90 minutes preceeding them for much of the time Eg: we were excellent again't the Pikeys Very odd analogy to say we were excellent We lost!!
Totally agree mate - I think we need a new Manager's office at Oakwell, 'cos everyone that works in the current one over the last few years has turned into a fruit loop
Blessed are the cheesemakers I think you might be taking it a bit too literally ... obviously this was a reference to all top managers of football clubs I think he's just pointing out that he ask's himself what would a top manager have done differently? ... the inference being that he doesn't consider himself a top manager (yet).
Re: Blessed are the cheesemakers I miss the first month under LJ, where we never lost, never conceded and I lapped up his interviews. Results eh?
