Over the last couple of managers we have had several discussions around whether results or performances are the most important. I think the current side are proving how a good performance can take the edge off not winning. We have only won one game so far this season so by normal standards there would be a lot of criticism of the manager and players - however this is a bit different The players are playing with passion and pride and the manager is trying to set up the side to be entertaining. Because of that we are - rightly - not just concentrating on the score but looking at the whole package If we can keep up this level of performance - and its a big if - I think slowly the crowds will start to come back - even if we are still in the lower half of the table. Obviously we need to win some games and I dont think many will be happy if we finish in the bottom 3 even if we keep performing like we have for the last 5 games but there is no doubt that a performance gets a lot more appreciation from the fans even if we had lost today the player would still have been applauded off the pitch - its the right way to get the fans on side
The crowds will not come back at £30 a game, not even if we are in the top six. Sorry Dave, although I agree with the rest of your post.
You and BFC Dave are talking a great deal of sense tonight. There must be a punchline somewhere, but it escapes me!!
Shurrup you're sloshed... oh no actually that would be me ! I see you have organised a 'do' when I'm away on mi 30th wedding anniversery... selfish bugger.... oh no that would be me again ! how's the young 'un is she ok ?
Evening Trouble. Laura's now down to one visit to Nottingham Hospital a week & is enjoying college. She still refuses to do my uni work for me, though!! Bloody kids!!!
The key at the moment is the amount of planning which Mr Hill undertakes for each game and the honesty and professionalism of the current playing squad, There is a unity of purpose and desire to improve which is not reflected in the league table. The local economy is dire and getting worse this is largely responsible for poor recent crowds whether or not a home win is achieved on Saturday holding the likes of Derby,Birmingham and Leicester are fantastic results on our current budget.
I was watching the Watford-Forest game at the weekend and the commentator said something that really stuck out. He said that one of the players in the Championship earns 80% of Watford's wage budget. Now, I might be wrong here - but haven't we got an even smaller budget than Watford? If that's the case, it's no surprise we can't compete on transfers. With that in mind, when the team performs well they deserve to be applauded. I listened to the game last night and it was electric to listen to! I can't imagine what the fans went through watching it live. The Barnsley player commentators did an excellent job though.
well I think the former will eventually lead to the latter and hopefully soon..the performances really need to start getting dividends soon in the way of some wins . I hope that this will be the case.It would be a crying shame if the lads heads went down because of the scant return for their obvious endeavour and hard work.Hopefully on saturday the rewards will begin.
