as we wernt supposed to get up in the first place, not this year anyway.. He needs to release proper funding for quality players. Just read a bit from my history book a quote from the legendary Johnny Steele...... "The drive determination and dedication to put Barnsley Football club where it belongs emenates from the top. The Chairman, Vice Chairman and collegues on the board have this season given us the encouragement and incentives we needed " .... Sadly lacking this season gentlemen.

    Its Not Shepherds Decision,

The FACT which every one seems to be missing on here is that Cryne, Shepherd and Martin Wilkinson have all suggested players to Andy Ritchie and have also available around 700k for signings but it is Ritchie who does not want to bring in players above the age of 30.
I think after 15 games then Ritchies experiment of keepig faith with the promotion side will wear off and then we should see some changes.

it has to,the board are not completely blind, remember what shepherd said in the cardiff programme that ritchies descesion to stick with the players that got us promoted would be closely monitored

Its GS who decides the wage structure.

Thats why we cannot attract players.

It is also GS who has said that their is money available for players but AR wants to give last years squad the chance.

Money available isnt necessarily going to help

If the wage structure is the biggest problem.

By the way I have no idea whether it is or not - but circumstantial evidence suggests that we are keeping salaries under tight control ie only signing young (ie cheaper) players, some of our targets going to other clubs who on paper are smaller than us - eg Colchester.

If the conversation between GS and AR is - yes you can spend 700K on a player the money is availlable - but max wages are £1500 per week, then the chances of Andy picking up an "experienced championship standard" Centre half are pretty slim.

As Andy cant sign a player of that calibre - he may as well stick with what he has rather than try a punt on another youngster of unknown quality.

    Just a thought

    I don't believe that.

What manager wouldn't want to strengthen his squad?

I think AR is told what to say.

Look at Bridges though. £325,000 a great buy. Man of the match on Saturday and scored a great goal last night.

Any idea what his salary is?

Also he is a tad injury prone - they will be lucky to get more than 20 games from him this season!

    GS is a Barnsley fan

and I suspect although he's very aware of our financial situation, there's no way on earth he could sit through games like Norwich and Burnley and then refuse to support AR in bringing in defenders. there's funds available for loan signings.

    Leeds tyke is spot on

There might be BUYING money but is there WAGES money, the latter is far more important than the former. Its that part of the matter that makes or breaks a deal cause obviously if they were out of purchase price range there would be no point in going in for them in the first place, but if we can afford to buy in we then have to be able to afford to keep them.............

We dont know if the money is for fees or for wages.

I personally think that if we identify someone who will improve the team on loan and we can afford them we will sign them. That also applies to permanent players we can afford it or not. That simple.

To try and distinguish between wage money and transfer money is irrelevant.
