Why is it on the increase on this site. It doesn't solve anything other than stifles debate. We may not like certain stuff being posted but I find it best to ignore. (Some actually take pleasure in being a wum then leave the rest to it) If we all did that then the poster would get the hint. Some require a reply but not to the extent it spoils the thread by to and froing. I'm guilty of that missen. Having to constantly correct a person/s viewpoint when they are on a mission to try discredit.

Words and sentences get twisted. Unlike face to face conversations where the true meaning of a comment more often than not is understood in context.
I am far from innocent as I have misunderstood a few posts over the years (not replied abusively to the poster btw) and been corrected. I don't take it as an excuse. And apologise.
But some of the personal abuse is beyond acceptable imho.
I am also one of the worst with bad language but aimed at institutions rather than personal.
The election creates heated debate I get that. And emotions run high. But one thing I do understand is laying into someone does nothing to persuade em to vote otherwise. In fact has the total opposite effect.

Personal abuse should never be tolerated, any poster who does it should be warned by the moderators and removed if they persist.

It's the road we are speeding down unfortunately,we are all anonymous on here some more than others and some use this say things that they wouldn't say to your face. I say this as it's the rule I try to use,as you say we all say things other people disagree with that's fine healthy even but surely if you disagree put your point across but if still can't find common ground agree to disagree. To me been on here is a positive thing i enjoy and i totally agree the wums are best ignored don't give them the oxygen of a reply.

Society as a whole is leaning more and more into this playground attitude. Rather than have conversations about key issues there seems to be more and more traction in name calling. Against Brexit? You're a remoaner! Socially liberal? You're woke! Crooked Hilary, Sleepy Joe, Kamikwasi & The lettuce.

    Grow the f**k up

It's all b*llshit and bully tactics we're supposed to grow out of by 16. And it's people of all ages and all political backgrounds doing it. No respect, no cooperation, just constant namecalling and whining.

It isnt just one side though mate, as a 'loony lefty', I myself have called people gammon, insulted trump, boris' looks etc, probably called people racist and the like without actually thinking about it and due to them just having a difference in opinion to me, which I regret because it cheapens the word and was just unfair. And personally I don't think its offline either. Its online (ofcourse there's a tonne of instances in real life but in comparison) mostly, and thats down to anonymity and feeling safe to say anything, especially when you have like-minded people backing you up.

I've tended to ignore much of my own sides idiocy/corruption/lies because, well, they're my side. Its still my opinion that 'the other side' is far worse, but just because Hitler was worse, doesnt mean I should gloss over what Pol Pot did. Over the past couple of years I've tried to learn and improve and I feel my voting from here on in will reflect that new knowledge and hopefully it'll go towards a better future.

Apologies if it came across differently but my intention was to point the finger at both sides and I completely agree with your sentiment.

Also.. can't believe I forgot Gammon. That's an awful nickname

I'm always correct, anyone who disagrees is a deviant.

    It's that simple....

Because we now live in a world where if someone has different opinions its acceptable to try to destroy them rather than just accept that their opinion differs with their own..

I don't know. I can't remember ever receiving or giving any personal abuse on here and I've been on here for well over 20 years.

Genuine question, could anyone say anything abusive to you that you would get upset? I can't think of anything said by a stranger that I'd give a hoot about?

What if he/they called you a lovely person to your face for having a different point of view. ?.
Most would not do that and hide behind their avatar.
