I have lived in Barnsley since I was 21 and follwed BFC home and away with pasion for many years. However with one parent from the Shetlands and the other from South Wales I wonder if I'm as passionate about the club as those who are Barnsley born and bred. What I'm asking is does the club inevitably mean more to those who were born at the Barnsley Hospital than it does to those of us who are incomers.
No The Barnsley borough has a population of over 220,000. 90% of those don't really give a stuff about BFC. Of course, they weren't all born in Barnsley, but a large percentage will have been.
42 an born at Becketts... Barnsley my life, No1 Son born in Guernsey, Barnsley his life, No2 Son born in 6 weeks, you can bet your fooking life Barnsley WILL be his life too.
I'm like you Wasn't born in Barnsley, never lived in Barnsley, but in love with Barnsley FC! I find it astonishing and quite sad at how many locals in Barnsley couldn't give a **** about BFC.
Very few of my mates supported Barnsley when I was growing up there We were seen as a bit of joke - sad really. Saw a few of those who used to mock me at Wembley ff
RE: Very few of my mates supported Barnsley when I was growing up there Same here mate, funny how they were all at wembley. I always remember folk who used to support Man Utd or Liverpool and then say "Ive been a lifelong BFC fan all my life" when you drop on them years later. CNUTS!!
Born in Harrogate but lived in Lincolnshire until the age of 18, travelled every week despite most of my mates being either Forest fans (who mocked) or Lincoln fans (who either tried to mock or identified with me). Now have even further to travel but still manage it from time to time. I think once it's in your blood it's in your blood. I've tried to feel even vaguely passionate about Zenit winning the Russian league after years of Moscow dominance, and their fabulous UEFA Cup run this season (not just that they're in the final but the football they've been playing has been sparkling) but the feelings that either of those great achievements aroused in me can't even compare to a single BFC goal. Don't get me wrong, I'm really pleased with what Zenit have done and love watching them play when they're on form (when they're playing **** against some cloggers from Vladivostok I go to sleep), but I think the comparison should answer your question.
borm in warrington, but barnsley is my life, tough admitadly i only stay there for 3 days spent rest of my life in wakey or barnsley
Somtimes it can make the ties to the club stronger
Some people are born a BFC supporter, whereas some have a choice and pick them as their team. All the mongrels at myschool supported the scum, whereas I had a brain.

Never lived in Barnsley in my life, but family are from there and started going with my dad & grandad in 1972. Born & brought up in Wakey, but tarn were my nearest team. Never even a doubt I could support anyone else. Slightly odd when I join in any 'frum tarn and prard of it' type chants, but it would feel strange doing 'owt else.
Never lived in Barnsley and have no family ties with the town. I was about 13 when were promoted to premier league and remember all my mates at school saying how poor they would be and how they would go straight back down, at the time i thought you know what somebody's got to give them a chance and decided to follow them since then. Struggled to get to games at first but whenever they were in the area i would drag my dad to see them, the one that sticks out in the memory was away at Tranmere in 2000 2 all draw with Geoff Thomas scoring, still to this day my favourite match i have been to!
No I was born in Holmfirth so should be a Town fan, but my dad took me to watch reds with a friend of his when i was 9. all my mates are town fans and for 1 yesr when i was about 14 i watched town with my mates, but it just wasn't the same. Hooked to the reds by my first live game. Daughter addicted too and its not easy when your surrounded y opposition. Eat sleep and drink BFC ask my wife she knows whats number 1 in our house
I don't think so.
Nothing means more to me (at the moment) than BFC, and I wasn't born in Barnsley, or Yorkshire, or even the North.
I've just always been football mad, and I was never going to support anyone else once I started going

I live in Pontefract and have been a reds fan all my life on the basis that barnsley are my nearest local professional team.... It's 14 mile to Barnsley from my house where as Leeds and Donny are 16 miles aways.
