I have been watching this series and can totally recomend it. It's not just about Dulwich Hamlets FC but grass roots football in general. It's well worth a watch.
Good call. Watched the first episode and not seen it since. Will look it up as it looked really good.
I saw it on Quest, but schedule is a bit random. It is great tv though, the one where Pete visits Bury FC nearly had me in tears..
All well and good, however I’m not sure how representative Dulwich Hamlet is of struggling grass roots football, where the average property price is ~£1m. I suspect there are many many better examples - albeit not nearly as trendy.
Crouch constantly states that it's not just about Dulwhich, but many grass roots clubs. He went on loan there from Spurs which is why he is showing their plight, but as I say he constantly says many many more are in a bad state.
Whilst the Premier League is saturated with the riches of foreign owners. It stinks, it really does. Far more of the Premier League tv money should be filtered down through the pyramid instead of going into the pockets of average players and worse still, greedy agents.
I'll take a look, but I can't recall Crouch complaining about the inequitable distribution of wealth within the game or struggles at grass roots level when he was getting paid millions of pounds a year.
Rich owners is a problem down the pyramid too where you get clubs like Salford and Harrogate in to the Football League thanks to rich backers that don't match the crowds. Harrogate for example are bankrolled by a guy who's got around 150 million and yet a few times this season haven't even taken 100 to away games.
You're right there. Salford is an obvious one but I'd no idea about Harrogate. It's on a different scale but I like the fact that Wrexham aren't having it their own way either despite their wealthy ownership.
Barely crowds even at home of 2,000.... https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/harrogate-town/attendances Irving Weaver 41st on the annual rich list with 145 million pounds.... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.do...oncaster-moguls-placed-on-rich-list-57497?amp Harrogate wouldn't be where they are with the crowds they get without his money. I think he's wanting out and if that happens they will go back where they were.
That's because he did not know about the funancial distribution down the pyramid during his playing career. He says so in the series, but now he is attemting to do something about. In the last eoiside he had Prince William at the griund abd explained the situation. Oince William is the FA 's ambassador thingy . He saud he woukd bring it up and try to get things happening.
