Gutted Jackson slams ref Tuesday May 16 2006 11:40 Huddersfield Town boss Peter Jackson slammed referee Chris Foy for awarding a controversial penalty to Barnsley that helped dump his side out of the play-offs. Jackson was livid with Foy after seeing video replays that showed any contact between Town's Danny Schofield and Barnsley's Marc Richards was outside the box. Jackson said: "It is very disappointing as we have lost to a penalty that should never have been a penalty, a set-piece and a fumble by the keeper. "The penalty was the turning point, we were on top and I could not see Barnsley scoring, but the referee's decision changed the game. "I did not think it was a penalty at all and whatever contact there was between Danny Schofield and their man was clearly outside the box."
Different pictures I saw as the contact was on the line, and whats all this about " whatever contact there was" as though it was minimal....it was a blatant push in the back....maybe he should be more critical of his defender for a cynical foul. It annoys me when a player makes a foul on the edge of the area and when the ref gives the penalty they argue that it was just outside the box - arguing that should be a red card offence because in my opinion what they are saying is "I know exactly where I fouled him and I did it outside the box so I wouldn't give away a penalty" i.e. a deliberate, pre-meditated, cynical foul.
it was a really really stupid foul - they weren't in immediate danger. difficult to say if it was inside or outside but it was definitely a foul
First it was "he didn't push him, he only made contact with him" - now it's "well it was outside the box anyway"</p> Wrong on both counts Peter, as those of us who were able to see it properly - unlike you - can say with hands on hearts.</p>
Watched it replayed in Hudd. Exec. Lounge, and everyone 99% HT supporters agreed it was a penalty. Must admit I didn't think it was one at the time.
It was a clear push in the back....from where I was behind the goal it was clear to see...we were just bemused at why he'd done it. The only doubt I had was whether it was in the area....having seen the replay Sky have a perfect view level with edge of are and you can see that Hayes is on the line.
He makes it sound Like their goals were some sort of wonder strikes and ours were scrambled over the line.
Agreed "It is very disappointing as we have lost to a penalty that should never have been a penalty, a set-piece and a fumble by the keeper." And it would have been equally disappointing if we had lost to 2 defensive errors that gifted them goals. He should find another job if he can't accept losing games to goals!
