See the report into the collapse of MG Rover. Feathered their own nests and cost 7000 direct and scores more indirect jobs following the collapse of Britain's last major car manufacturer. But you are alright jack.
Yep. Bit heel snapperish there though Dirk, but it is heartening to see you agree....the fire still burns within you. Add to the list all governments after Atlee.
You know I'm hard of seeing. M and N are very similar and close togther on the keyboard. But thanks for the spot anyway!
RE: Sucked in, believing the hype. They should know better. And the tax payer saddled with another bad egg. No thanks.
Bad egg? Like what? Correctly managed and run, Rover could have paid it's way. Hell, they managed to skim enough out of it. But let's allow the service sector to dominate our economy, breaking a basic law of nature, that being "you can't make something out of nothing".
RE: Bad egg? Like what? How is MG not a bad egg? They haven't turned a profit in decades, and I think I remember recently it made a loss of £400m in one financial year. They sell around 100,000 cars a year which is a decline year on year from the last decade. The brand of MG Rover means very little now - if it did BMW would have kept it and run it as a loss leader. The car designs are terrible, the marketability of the company would be a nitemare and the desireability of the cars produced are no better than skoda etc.... they've been overtaken by Japanese imports. Do you have any idea how much it would be to sort that company out? Forget the £36m over 5 years that those 4 blokes took, drop in the ocean. I dont want to see people out of work, but its just not worth it from a business and financial decision. If your suggesting we should keep it because of a 'UK Brand' then whats the point, its not something thats been proud for ages.
Whilst their behaviour may have been abhorent And consideration for embezzlement and fraud may be worth a look "Crimes against the working classes" FFS
People are more important than profit... that is not an excuse for loss making, it could, with the right management and investment have been a better option and one where the majority of employment and cash did not dissapear out of the country. Oh and under those four, losses were shall we say exagerated to cover their other shenenigans.
But will they be? No, as there is not enough evidence... therefore, a new charge needs to be brought.
RE: People are more important than profit... Im struggling to understand what your argument is for saving MG Rover? Moral, financial or Brand? 7000 employees being kept in work? - Well that doesnt stack up. The government has to make a decision on whether to keep 7000 people in employment against wasting millions of people's money - Financial car giant BMW ditched it for £10. Thats ten pounds. If that company could be turned round do you think there are better companies and individuals than at BMW? Financially viable - keeping 7000 people in work with 100000 car production doesn't stack up. The brand isn't there to overtake other manufacturers in its class. Reputation counts for absolutely everything, and MG Rover's is on its ar5e - Would you buy a brand new rover for the money they cost? I doubt it. Most go for something that looks nice and has a good reputation. Rover fail on both counts. Keeping a National Icon / UK Brand - Its nothing to be proud of. Hasn't been for years. BMW would have kept it if it was and just turned production down to the minimum just to keep the name if in name alone it was worth something. As a company is ruined, and has been for years. Just because 4 blokes saw enough opportunity to squeeze a few quid out of it for a few years means nothing.
BMW bought it for the Land Rover and Mini brands.... Mini being a Rover design that has outstripped the competition since its release.
