Went to the England v Ireland game yesterday. Good day out (apart from the weather), and a good performance from England (which was to be expected). I still say that the England v Australia game should have been held here, or at least up in the Rugby League heartland, not in a half empty Millenium Stadium. Yesterday was the first time the Galpharm has been sold out.
Except there were 45,000 at the Millennium Stadium, so twice what they'd have got at Huddersfield. They are also trying to expand teh sport in the country so putting the 2 top teams there helps.
But what does it say to the fans in the heartland? Surely you look after those fans first. The England/Australia game could have been staged at Old Trafford, and, imho, it would have been sold out. The Millenium stadium holds 75000. There were only 45000 for the England v Australia game, many of whom would have come from Yorkshire/Lancashire area on a weekend out. All those empty seats didn't look good on TV, not for one of the Premier games in the competition.
