Sheffield United have finally captured Manchester City striker Ched Evans on a four year deal worth almost £4million.

The transfer fee is unknown at the moment, but it's thought it will be between £1.5 and £2million, with the Welshman earning £20,000 per week.

20k a week in the championship, bloody hell

They sign him for £2 million plus £1 million a year wages

Forest sign a right back for almost the same amount.

    Bit of perspective needed.

    Too right

Its a pity there's no-one out there with a bit of money who'd be willing to help us out a little bit. Cryne's been great, but there's only so much he can do, financially speaking, on his own.

We need a few million/billionaire Barnsley fans!

I'm not even bothered about the money, if I'm honest.

I'd prefer us to compete by signing young players from lower down the leagues and improving 'em and acting like a proper football club, not throwing money about.

Only problem is that the fans need to play a part by giving players a chance and getting behind 'em, making it hard for other teams/fans coming to Oakwell. It just doesn't seem to happen anymore. All players we sign are **** unless proven otherwise and the atmosphere at Oakwell is *****.

if the glory grabbing fans got down to oakwell and support the team in the league and not only grab tickets when we are in f.a.cup semis and play off finals. no they keep hold of their money and sit at home moaning that we dont sign quality players. they are a fecking disgrace to barnsley football club.

Has this been confirmed by a reputable source? I'd heard he was having a medical at Portman Road today.

I don't understand why so many are feeling fecked off with whats happening in the transfer market because having seen the Bristol City players and manager interviewed on sky, they are automatically promated. Now take the pigs. Well they too are going for automatic and so are Forest. In addition to other clubs with aspirations someone is going to very very disapointed. Me thinks the preverbial will hit the fan next May/june.

Now take little ole Barnsley. They plod along, appear to be signing some up and comming youg'ens who are knocking on the first team door, they are carefully monitoring the striker situation and possible the defence and mid-field. What have we spent compared to the former three which I mentioned, **** all and I for one are pleased to see it. Someone at BFC have their heads screwed on the right way . in IMO care is being taken to spend and recruit. For some time now I have been in the lead of being a critic of Davey and for the time being I will not change my mind but, I am becomming causiously optomistic about next season

    I hope not

and i'd think they'd bite our hand off if we offered that much. Granted he's more prolific than Odejayi but even Jn Macken has got a better goalscoring record for us than Sharp has for the Blunts, he's league 1 standard at best, i'd rather have Gray or Alan Lee.

Same could be said for Simon Cox....... and Beckford

I reckon Sharp would do well here......... he's hardworking, quick and good first touch....... From games I saw last season he played as second striker linking midfield with attack and he was overshadowed by the prolific free scoring James Beattie.... I reckon he's similar to Burnley's Martin Patterson, Jamie Cureton etc.... I reckon if either of them were asked to play same role Sharp did last year they would also struggle to get goals.....

Harsh to write him off though....

Pointless signing a player like him then

No point in having a striker that sits a little further back when we create absolutely nothing from central midfield. If we're going to sign a striker to pick up balls from an attacking midfielder then we need an attacking midfielder first

    I remember those days.

Nowadays, it's more like a morgue than a football stadium. Too many people don't want to get behind the team, purely because of personal vendettas and stupid feelings. They aren't supporters. Supporters 'support' no matter what.

RE: Same could be said for Simon Cox....... and Beckford

But we need an out and out goalscorer, someone who can bang in 15+ goals a season. I wouldn't take Jamie Cureton either, or Jermaine Beckford because he's unproven at this level. That's why i reckon Andy Gray is the answer, he got the same amount as Macken last season in a bad side, where he was injured for a large proportion of the season. If he stays fit, i could see him getting between 15 & 20 goals a season, plus i think Bogdanovic will score a similar amount personally too.

We are hardly shaping up to be a good side - infact right now we are a weaker side than finished last season!

I cannot understand the money involved in some deals

Not seen much of Evans but how can a youngster be worth so much when he is hardly proven, I understand he is an international albeit for Wales and lets put this into perspective Nards is a Welsh international too,but he has had one decent spell at Norwich and thats its, 20k a week, your having a laugh aren't you?
