I said exactly the same in a thread earlier. They've defended on their own when the fullbacks and midfield were marauding forward. Walton gets a pat on the back too.
Whilst they were by no means ineffective: On more than one occasion Lindsay dived in and could be counted fortunate to stay on the pitch, and another time he was exposed for pace and it was Walton who bailed him out. Pinnock was more solid, but again a Walsall forward going in on goal easily slipped past him and it was Walton who saved us. So thanks for the 3 points Jack.
Wasn't at the game was working listened on radio sheff both commentators said Lindsay was fortunate not to get sent off. But on the whole both said they had solid games. You don't got seven hundred and odd minutes without conceding from open play if your center backs are no good best pair in the league imo
Imperious throughout, although Lindsay got a little lucky towards the end then their lad beat him for pace and could have gone down. Both class in this league and should make the step up next season, hopefully with us.
Well to be fair hassel didn't say so much but the other lad did. Could be rob staton don't listen often though so apologies if wrong. I got the impression from the comontators young Williams should have been carded 1st half.
They were both very good today. Their confidence is quite staggering. Both of them telling the full backs to push on which left us exposed to the counter in a way i’ve rarely seen this season. But neither seemed to mind! Not sure we’d get away with is against a better team though. No matter, they should be hugely pleased with their performances in this extraordinary unbeaten run and this ridiculous number of consecutive clean sheets.
This is true. But today without the goalie bailing them out we could have been berating them both. Praising the centre halves today just hides the performance of the rest of the team. In my opinion the defence was no better than all the others - except Walton. Lindsay was niggling and fouling and his lack of pace was evident. Supertyke gets on Lindsay's back too much, but today he'd have been well within his rights to point out certain deficiencies.Today was not the time to say how great he is. Pinnock did well, but one of their forwards stood him up in the area, pushed it past him and Walton had to get him out of jail.
It was more by good luck than judgement that we didn't concede today. The challenge on Pinnock for the disallowed goal wasn't a foul, it was a penalty waiting to happen when Lindsay was being turned inside out and that goal line clearance by Williams must have been very close.
I thought they’ve played much better this season than they did today but both are absolutely vital to us. I know we’re all about selling for mass profit but the spine of our team needs to stay intact for as long as possible.
Centre halves aren’t known for their lightening pace so I don’t think Lindsay can be berated for not being as quick as a winger. I’d actually say he probably has above average pace for a centre back - it’s not a “deficiency”. Pinnock and Lindsay were left two on two far too often so were always going to be exposed to being ran at, but they marshalled it well for the most part. Yes Walton had to make a few saves, but our gamble paid off today.
The headline thanks Pinnock and Lindsay for getting us 3 points. They did not get us 3 points. We could see how quick Lindsay was when compared to their winger. His virtue was in not fouling him. He did foul others, somewhat riskily. I'm not sure if Pinnock would have been so exposed. Central defenders still need to sometimes be able to deal with wingers. Some wingers are crafty rather than pacy. And sometimes you just have to thank the keeper.
There's no chance of keeping Lindsay this summer. There's been the Cellino - Brescia interest which Sky mentioned again today and it was also reported in today's Daily Record that Celtic, Villa and Leeds are interested in him as well. If £5 million is only half right he'll be gone.
