...than charge the man who 'assisted' the conductor by removing the non-farepayer from the train so it could get underway after a long delay, with Assault. Techically it was assault but it is a shame the law continues to be more about the legal process than common sense. The person did not use excessive force looking at the video

A bit more time and resource spent on catching and prosecuting the thugs who assault staff and passengers, not to mention stealing cable costing £milllions every year would be a start.

Sometimes I hate what the UK has become.

Easy conviction. Keeps the figures ticking over.

I reckon it's the other way around, in fact I reckon there's at least 10 genuine claimaints for every one sponging.

Does anyone else want to put out their own unsubstantiated figures?

They've had training days since I can remember - used to be called baker days after the education secretary at the time - they need training to keep with another stupid government iniative

You didn't need teacher training Days in the 50s and 60s. Bugger all changed and the education system was in a much worse condition than it is now.

From my own dealings with the unemployed I tend to come across more who I would say play the system rather than genuine claimants. In fact a number I have the misfortune of dealing with have no intention to work. I see on a day to day basis people and house holds banking at least eleven hundred a month that's not including council tax or housing benefits.

Then again given what I do it is expected.

The problem was caused by the train guard who didn't follow procedure.

The student in question had bought a return ticket but had handed in his return ticket on the outward journey by mistake. There was no reason to assualt the young lad. Had the guard used a little intelligence and common sence the situation could have been sorted without anyone else being involved.

Conductor last week from Sheffield to Barnsley was clearly aware ticket inspectors were waiting at Meadowhall so reminded everyone of need to buy a ticket before departure. Great I thought but then yet again rolls down the aisle as someone asks for a ticket that could have bought at station. I despise fair dodgers and about time too they got a conviction and conductors or 'big men' grew some balls

That was his fault then. If you make a mistake you pay the penalty.

The fault was with the ticket inspector who should have contacted the Transport Police. A little comon sence wouldn't have been ammiss but then again he was a Scot.

The fault lies with the **** who didn't have a valid ticket and refused to co-operate with a reasonable request. The fault lies with the little runt who started shouting and swearing in front of innocent members of the public who HE was inconveniencing through his own selfish behaviour.

I would think that your unsubstantiated figures are incorrect. There is no way of knowing but one thing for certain is that the system is abused.

Not according to the report I read. He claimed he was unable to buy a return ticket at the station so instead bought 2 singles, thinking he's got a single for both journeys whereas it turned out he had actually bought 2 singles for the outward journey.
He didn't have a valid ticket for the journey he was on, he can claim what the hell he wants but he can't prove that, so he should have just acknowledged his mistake and bought another ticket, not started shouting at the conductor.
