Dressed as Spider Man, standing on a roundabout for 8 hours, with a placard. Can anyone think of a more rubbish job? I once worked at Lyons Bakery, where my Summer job, was to sit on a stool for 8 hours. If the Granny Cake got stuck on the machinery, I had to give it a shove, with a stick, to knock it back onto the belt. At least I was indoors. Seeing these folks out in all weathers standing about on roundabouts, does not make me think "Ooh I fancy a Pizza". It makes me think "What a horrible company that is".
3 or 4 round Hoyland everyday this last few weeks.....school kids taking the p155 summat chronic apparently. multinational company doing it.....what's the point ???
Up near Manvers? I saw two yesterday dinnertime when I was picking my son up from work up there. I said exactly the same thing to him.
I once had a summer job at the Asda factory on Wakefield 41 industrial estate. One chaps job was to stand next to the table where the pizzas dropped out of the sellaphane wrapping machine, and slap the sticker on the top. It made my job on the production line throwing the mushrooms on the pizzas look positively exciting by comparison. But the bloke guarded that job with his life, been doing it for years. we had so many breaks to counter the boredom that i got bored of the breaks.
Bonkers. Bet they're on a pittance. Can't they think of a better way of employing these staff? I just find it degrading. I see this guy on my way into work, and on my way home. It makes me feel like I'll never buy a Pizza again. He's bang outside McDonalds, which is ironic.
When I worked at Lyons. if the line in front went one minbute over their break, our line would go 2 minutes over. And then it went on. = cakes falling off the end of the line. I never understood why the people who did this as a permanent job would get in bother for something so daft. Then again it was just a Summer Jo for me.
Just think. Paying those people smugglers thousands to advertise a pizza chain. For minimum wage. At best.
I saw him and felt so sorry for him. To be honest, I felt guilty. Things shouldn't be like this, we seem to be going backwards. I'm not talking about politics here, I'm just wondering if we've made any progress in our own heads' since Dickens was around.
Agree fired, -- seeing a spider-man advertising a pizza wont persuade me to go and buy one. So I wonder if they are there for some other purpose but tbh can't imagine what that might be. Answers on a postcard!
I guess it doesn't make you fancy a pizza right away - however, you are still thinking about it and that may subconsiously make you think about pizza later on and order one.
Just reading the thread and wondered. Has any one stopped to talk to these people. Some of the large chains do the same here but not just for food items. The people who they use are mostly homeless people and they get paid around $8 an hour. Which they are grateful for, also if someone goes to store and makes a purchase and say they saw the guys outside they got a small bonus. Just wondered if it was the same there.
I find it absoulutely terrifying - our economic system is so messed up that paying somebody to stand on the pavement for eight hours a day costs a company less than actually putting up some traditional advertising. It says a huge amount about the relative values society places on people and property.
There is oodles of this kind of crap that goes on in Headingley. If they are paying the legal minimum wage & someone is up for doing it, it can't be stopped. If Nigel Farage & Ian Duncombe Smith's side win the Brexit referendum they will be able to pay people a damn site less.
